🕯 From the Guru’s Martyrdom to Punjab’s Deepest Wound

More than 400 years ago, Guru Arjan Dev Ji gave his life — not in war, but in calm defiance of injustice.
He sat on a burning hot plate. Boiling sand poured over him.
He didn’t resist.
He accepted it all — with divine grace and fearless faith.

His martyrdom became the foundation of Sikh resilience.

Centuries later, on the day that marks his Shaheedi, thousands of pilgrims gathered at Sri Harmandir Sahib to remember him.
But remembrance turned into tragedy.

Tanks stormed the holy site.
Gunfire shattered prayer.
The Akal Takht was destroyed.
Pilgrims — men, women, children — became victims.

The same sanctuary built by the Guru…
Was attacked as his followers bowed in his memory.

💔
This was not just a military operation.
It was a blow to the soul of Punjab.
A wound that still bleeds — in silence, in songs, in prayers.

🙏
We remember the Guru who gave his life for truth.
And those who lost theirs while remembering him.

📸 Pierre Trudeau in India – 1948
Photo: National Archives of Canada

A year after Partition tore apart the subcontinent, a young Canadian named Pierre Trudeau — who would later become Prime Minister of Canada — arrived in India.
Wearing a turban and simple clothes, Trudeau wasn’t on a diplomatic mission.
He was a traveler, a thinker, a seeker.

1948 was a raw time.
India was newly independent.
Punjab was wounded and divided.
The scars of Partition were still fresh.

And amid that chaos, this image was captured — a foreigner quietly observing a land that had just been reborn in fire and blood.

Decades later, his son Justin Trudeau would also visit Punjab.
But in this photo, it’s the beginning of a connection — between Canada and Punjab — written not in treaties, but in curiosity and human empathy.

This isn’t just a photo.
It’s a moment when two worlds first touched.

On this day in 2022, Punjab lost more than a singer.
We lost a son.
A voice.
A mirror.
A movement.

Sidhu Moosewala wasn’t just music —
He was truth with a beat.
He was pain with pride.
He was Punjab with a mic.

From the dusty streets of Moosa
to billboards in Times Square —
he carried Punjab in every verse,
unapologetic, fearless, raw.

They tried to silence him.
But voices like his don’t die.
They echo.
In headphones.
In hearts.
In history.

🕊️
Rest in power, Sidhu.
Your roar still shakes the land.
And Punjab still cries — with its fists clenched and head held high.

Painting Series _

“Sikhism Theorama” by M.F. Husain is a modernist tribute to Sikh history and spirituality, blending Guru Gobind Singh's heroic spirit, Khalsa symbols, and martyrdom narratives, through abstract visual language. Orange and blue dominate the painting — referencing the Nihang warriors and Khalsa Panth.

"This isn’t just ghee. This is nostalgia sealed in a box."

From childhood breakfasts to wedding laddoos, Verka Ghee has been part of every Punjabi kitchen. But beyond the taste, it’s the iconic artwork that makes us pause —
a Bhangre wala munda with full energy,
a Giddhe wali kudi clapping with grace —
together, they’ve danced their way into our memories. 💛

Eh photo sirf design nahi,
eh saadi virasat hai.

On this day, a community lost more than just a bank…
|

In 1980, Punjab & Sind Bank was nationalised. But for the Sikh community, this wasn’t just a financial decision — it was a turning point.

Founded in 1908 by Sikh visionaries like Bhai Vir Singh, Sir Sunder Singh Majithia, and Sardar Tarlochan Singh, this bank was built to empower Sikhs — to uplift farmers, small traders, and common people through ethical, community-rooted banking.

It wasn’t just about money.
It was about identity, culture, and self-reliance.
It was “The Sikh Bank.”

Post-nationalisation, we lost:

Sikh leadership in a community bank

Cultural contributions like Sikh-themed calendars

The vision of a Panthic financial institution

Today, Punjab & Sind Bank is still a functioning public sector bank — but its roots, and its role in Sikh history, deserve to be remembered.

Let’s not forget what was built — and what was lost.

A dramatic painting depicting the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by the Singh twins, Rabindra and Amrit.

The twins said they had set Amritsar in the wider context of British history by also including “depictions of the 1770 Boston Massacre and Manchester’s Peterloo Massacre of 1819 which position Jallianwala as part of an ongoing history of State violence against civilian protests in Britain and its colonies”

The Crawling Act and Public Flogging (aftermath of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre)

Public Flogging and Crawling Order in wake of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre: ‘Khoo’ in Punjabi is a well and ‘korian’ means flogging. Thus, Khoo Korian is a reminder that Dyer’s rage did not end on 13 April 1919. He wanted to punish Amritsar more. On 19 April, he promulgated the ‘crawling order’ concerning the street where Miss Sherwood had been assaulted. The order, which was strictly enforced, disallowed Indians to pass through the lane, and if they did, they had to crawl. They were tied to tiktikis (flogging posts) and flogged with several stripes. In addition, Dyer ordered eleven ‘insolent’ inhabitants to crawl between the two pickets. According to Amritsar’s popular writer Naresh Johar, those who were made to crawl included a blind man, a few handicapped people and a pregnant woman.
