What do you notice in the below picture?
1 kart WITHOUT a nosecone, while the rest of the field (cant see them all) are using them.
Why would you not use a nosecone?
For starters, I struggled to judge the apex.
But what I did learn (the hard way sometimes) was that if you nail the kart in front, you’ll get sore ankles.
I’m not sold on the idea of these extra safety parameters.
I’ve been driving karts for 30 years.
Never once flipped. Is that luck? Yes quite a bit.
But I was also taught from a young age to look ahead, don’t put yourself in silly situations, commit when going for an overtake and judge your karts position on circuit.
Now we have all these “safety parameters” soft tyres, & kids within 4-5 seconds day 1, who literally have no idea what they’re doing as the tyres just keep them on the track.
Drivers don’t spin anymore. Do they learn from their mistakes? Nope.
So these newcomers feel invincible as they’re quite fast but with zero idea (race experience).
Karts are cornering faster than ever (do we really need that?). So any overtakes are a bold move as the driver in front hardly (brakes) slows for a corner.
I’ve never heard / seen of so many flips from first year drivers in my life as the last few years. Kids have flipped multiple times already within months.
This is masking the idea of what is actually the cause of these safety parameters: DRIVER EDUCATION.
