"Australia shouldn't be in the OFC Pro League" 🗣️🇻🇺🇦🇺

Former Ni-Vanuatu football player and manager Moise Poida has criticised the decision from the Oceania Football Confederation to include an Australian representative side in the 2026 OFC Pro League.

NPL Victoria giants South Melbourne FC have been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming 2026 OFC Pro League and will face sides from Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. Moise Poida, a known figure in Ni-Vanuatu football has spoken out negatively towards South Melbourne and their involvement in the competition.

In a statement, the OFC defended the inclusion of an Australian club as part of a wider strategy to raise football standards in the region. The OFC said the involvement of South Melbourne FC will bring greater visibility, stronger competition, and increased international interest, while also strengthening cooperation with Football Australia, which already contributes significantly to football development in the Pacific.

A return to the pitch for an Aussie in Europe 🇦🇹🇦🇺

Australian attacker Jed Drew made his first Austrian Bundesliga appearance since August as he featured for his TSV Hartberg side 🔵⚪️

The 22-year-old had battled a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a back injury. Earlier today, the former Macarthur FC player played 24 minutes for TSV Hartberg in their 2-1 win over WSG Tirol. The win sees Hartberg climb into fourth position on the competition ladder and trail by just three points to league leaders RB Salzburg.

The Austrian Bundesliga now takes a winter break and the league will resume in the first week of February.

Eliminated from the FIFA Arab Cup 🚫🇮🇶

Australian manager Graham Arnold and his Iraq men's national team have been eliminated in the quarter-final stage of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup.

Despite several big chances for Iraq, the Lions of Mesopotamia bow out of the competition as they suffered a 0-1 loss against Jordan at the Education City Stadium in Qatar. Attention now focuses onto 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying where Iraq will play the winner of Suriname/Bolivia to determine who will qualify for the group stage of next year's World Cup.

Another win for Auckland FC as they continue remarkable record since joining the A-Leagues Men's competition ⚫️🔵

Auckland FC have opened matchday eight of the 2025/26 A-League Men's competition with a 2-1 away win over the Central Coast Mariners. Goals from Jesse Randel and Sam Cosgrove gave the club another three points as they currently sit in first position on the competition ladder.

For manager Steve Corica, it's been a fantastic spell in his stint in New Zealand as across 34 A-League regular season matches, the Australian manager has only suffered four defeats.

Costa Rica international Youstin Salas has played every minute for Brisbane Roar FC this A-Leagues Men's season and he has helped the club keep five clean sheets in seven matches this campaign.

Adding much-needed international experience to the Roar, the 29-year-old right back has been an instrumental part of Michael Valkanis' side with Brisbane conceding the least amount of goals across the entire A-League Men's competition.

Tomorrow afternoon, Brisbane Roar take on the Western Sydney Wanderers in Parramatta looking to continue their exciting form.
