In this final lament we find grief, repentance, and hope in this prayer for God’s mercy and restoration.

From the ruins of Jerusalem comes a prayer for renewal: “Restore us to Yourself, O Lord.” In this final chapter of Lamentations, we learn that true restoration begins when despair turns our hearts back to God.

In this episode we see a failure of leadership for Israel in the 3 established offices of priest, prophet and king. Now these offices are wrecked, and leadership is in ruins, what possible future could there be?

Lamentations 4 paints a vivid picture of Jerusalem’s fall — the painful result of sin and corrupted leadership. Yet even in judgment, God’s justice remains purposeful and redemptive.

Jeremiah expressing a call for the people to submit to self-examination. There is anticipation in seeing how far the nation had wandered from God, that there now is a desire to return.

In this episode Jeremiah calls God’s people to examine themselves and return their hearts to God, while trusting that God sees, hears, and will ultimately bring justice against their enemies.

These verses in Lamentations 3 give the reason to make it possible to accept life’s trials and tribulations in quiet confidence.

We see in these verses that God is good even during suffering.  Waiting quietly on God is an act of faith, and that early endurance of hardship can form a strong and hopeful trust in God’s grace before any tragic circumstance occurs.

The basis for renewed hope is God’s great love. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never end. Bo...

The basis for renewed hope is God’s great love. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies never end. Both terms together highlight the unchanging, reliable character of God even amid judgment and suffering.

The brightest lights shone in the darkest nights.  In a dark time, grace glows in the darkness.

How do we answer the question, why do we suffer?

How do we answer the question, why do we suffer?

The sting of regret fuels this lament in chapter 2.  But we need to remember even during sudden devastation or other undesired circumstances of your life, the pathway of hope is open through prayer, repentance, and contriteness.

We see God’s restoration throughout scripture but what is difficult about this second lament in Lamentations the restoration is missing not forgotten by God but missing. This is a very heavy lament. This lament shows us how deeply Judah was feeling God’s anger.

Sin has results, no sin is committed in a void of consequence.  Lamentations 2 is all about what God is doing to Judah, and not what Judah did to get here. The comfort of God’s presence had gone cold.  God’s hand of blessing was withdraw...

Following God is not easy but the price of obedience is a bargain compared to the horrible price of rebellion.

God clearly did not want to have his people suffer like this.  Jeremiah and many other prophets were used by God to tell the people to repent and turn back to Him. Now a hard lesson is being learned that ignoring God’s warning is to embrace G...

Season 8 begins with the new study in the Book of Lamentations. Jerusalem is destroyed and the people enslaved. Laments are expressed but God is still faithful.

So, why study the Book of Lamentations?  Because it reflects life itself.  I’m not sure about your life but my life rarely resolves itself as cleanly as I would like.  A life lived untouched by pain is simply not found in Scripture....

This episode covers the climatic point of the last 11 chapters of Hebrews. As partakers of the new covenant, we do not come to Mount Sinai but to a better mountain in Mount Zion.... the new heavenly Jerusalem

We can come to the heavenly Jerusalem because of the better covenant that was mediated through Jesus Christ.  What Jesus did permits God’s people to enter God’s presence freely and confidently.
