EPISODE 169: In 1988, Tonya Hudkins was a recent widow raising 3 kids on her own and she was rocking it as a single mom. She never missed her kids baseball games or school events and she worked hard to keep them afloat financially. In the late 90s, she met Daryl McCartor who she eventually married and they were blissfully happy, but that all changed in May 2002. It was your typical Sunday afternoon and Tonya, Daryl, their kids & grandchild were swimming at a local athletic club having no idea that they were being watched...and had been for hours...

EPISODE 167: This case blew my mind and I have to start with this PSA: stick around until my very last sentence... New information came out 2 months ago and it throws in one more twist to an already twisty, infuriating case.

Sandra Birchmore was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts and didn’t have a great life. Her mom was chronically ill, her dad was out of the picture, she didn’t have a lot of support...until she found the Stoughton Police Explorer’s Program, a youth program for kids interested in police work. Sandra always dreamed of becoming a cop so this was right up her alley & she thrived in the program. As an adult, she still struggled and on February 1st, 2021, after a tough couple of years, she was found dead in her apartment. It was quickly ruled a su***de, but fortunately, that ruling wasn’t going to fly with friends and family.

EPISODE 166: After 8 days of captivity, Anita Wooldridge has been saved by Indiana police, Wisconsin Police and FBI in a gripping and perfectly executed rescue mission. EPISODE 165: In June 1998, Anita Wooldridge was getting ready for a lunch date when she hears a knock on the door. She opens it to see an unexpecting but familiar face. Even in a rush, Anita is nice enough to invite him in and offer him water, but when she turns her back,  he tazed her. She attempts to fight but he uses the stun gun twice more and she is left helpless at the hands of this monster. The terror that unfolds afterwards is horrifying (and infuriating), but investigators will not rest until they find out what happened to Anita and who is responsible.

Nobody knew who the secret hookup was, except for the code name “DJ”. As it turns out, “DJ” had a huge secret and as they say: two can keep a secret if one is dead.

If you’ve listened today’s episode, you know that last week Rebecca was diagnosed with breast cancer.

If we’ve learned anything from starting a podcast on the side, while working full time jobs and raising kids, it is that our community of friends and strangers alike are incredibly supportive. This support is what gave Rebecca the courage to leave her extremely stressful (and boring) corporate job to manage People are the Worst podcast full time.

But every now and then, s**t happens.

In July 2025, Rebecca was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. This diagnosis brings a lot of uncertainty, but one thing we know for sure is that medical bills for a newly self-employed mom of 2 kids are a bitch. We welcome your prayers and if you are able, we appreciate your financial help.

While we don’t fully know what lies ahead, what we do know is Rebecca has the determination and grit of a mom of two toddlers, who was working at 3 am, before her 9-5 day job, to work herself out of corporate life and into something she loves—and that’s got nothing on breast cancer. Your continued love and support reminds us that sometimes, people are the best (sometimes).

If you’re willing & able to support, a GoFundMe link is in our bio

Episode 162: In 1990, 22-year-old Tracey Harris was dropped off at home after work & was never seen alive again. Her ex-husband, Carl Harris, reported her missing and one week later, she was found in the Choctawhatchee River in Ozark, Alabama. The suspect was very obvious until someone came forward with a secret they’d been keeping for 30 years. At the end, you’ll also hear a quick overview of another Ozark, Alabama case: the murder of JB Beasley & Tracie Hawlett.

Episode 161: In June 2007, 18-year-old college freshman Anita Knutson was found brutally murdered in her off-campus apartment. Despite cops having the victims body, the murder weapon and endless suspects, the case went cold for 15 years as this crazed killer walked among them. Today we unravel Anita’s final days, the strange behavior of those around her, and the shocking arrest that came in 2022

EPISODE 159: August 1, 2002, 17-year-old Jacque Marris was parked at a well-known spot in Quartz Hill, CA overlooking Palmdale. She was with her friend, Frank, and just after midnight a man approached them with a gun. He tied Frank’s hands to the steering wheel and his head to the headrest. He was about to tie Jacque up but in a last minute decision he decided to take her instead. He forced her into a nearby white ford bronco (not OJ’s), and when she got in she noticed a pair of legs next to her. She initially thought it was a dead body but it was actually 16-year-old honor student: Tamara Brooks. For the next 12 hours these strangers would become the most important people in each other’s lives.
