Goorambat Silo Art: Where Nature and Art Collide

Sometimes, you don’t have to go to a museum to see something powerful. Sometimes, you just have to look up. In the rural heart of Victoria, the tiny town of Goorambat has become a must-visit stop on the Australian Silo Art Trail, thanks to its stunning large-scale murals. Towering over the landscape, these painted silos tell stories of wildlife conservation, faith, and rural heritage—proof that even the smallest communities can make a big impact through art.

The most striking piece is Milli the Barking Owl, painted in 2018 by Jimmy Dvate. With piercing eyes and wings spread wide, Milli isn’t just a breathtaking work of art—she’s a symbol of survival. As one of Australia’s most endangered birds, with fewer than 50 breeding pairs left in the wild, the Barking Owl’s presence on the Goorambat silos is a powerful call for conservation. Beside Milli, a second mural by Dvate depicts a rural farming scene, representing the delicate balance between agriculture and nature.

Adding a spiritual dimension to Goorambat’s art scene is Sophia, a serene and captivating female figure painted inside the Uniting Church by artist Adnate in 2017. With her deep gaze and ethereal presence, Sophia represents wisdom and compassion, drawing visitors from across the country.

Goorambat’s silo art is more than just a roadside attraction—it’s a celebration of history, culture, and environmental awareness. As one visitor put it, "You don’t expect world-class art in a town this small, but that’s the beauty of it—sometimes the most powerful stories are found in the quietest places."
