Here's the all-electric MPV, the BYD E6 which was launched in Indian market to mark the entery in the Indian passenger vehicle segment of the BYD which is the one of the global market leaders in the areas of tech, electronics and EVs.
Currently Indian Automotive market is under the trasition phase and almost every brand is trying to capture the market in that, some are launching entry level EVs and some are launching fast EVs, but BYD played smartly by making BYD E6 clean, silent, spacious and with range of 500+ Kms(Claimed).
Looking at exterior design you'll get a pure vibe of a spacious Electric MPV, you get dipping with a small hexagonal cut-outs in place of a traditional grille, swept back headlamps with LED DRLs. Coming on side you'll notice clean and long window line and also 17-inch alloy wheel design which is quite a basic. The design philosophy continues at the rear with clean LED taillights which are connected by chrome.
Step inside and you'll definitely not mistaken it as any other car as the story continues the same inside, clean and clear interior design with minimal physical buttons or any other gimmicks, there's just a free-standing 10.1-inch touchscreen. There's alot of space for rear passengers, seats are quite supportive and comfortable, so 500+ Kms journey not an issue.
A 71.7kWh battery pack powers a single electric motor developing 95hp and 180Nm. It can run 520km in the city and 415km on the highway in a single full charge but while we were testing we got to run 370 Kms in 90% to 5% charging but considering we were testing the vehicle and also drove on highways above 100kmph, so the range is the real deal in the BYD. The battery percentage drops faster when you drive at higher speed, so drive below 80 Kmph and you can easily achieve around 450 Kms range in real world.
BYD E6 starts at Rs 29.15 lakh for the e6 GL and Rs 29.60 lakh for the e6 GLX trim, which is on the expensive side especially when we compare other cars with their features in the segment, but the cabin & the boot space, 500+ Kms drive range and 8 year/5,00,000km battery warranty offered by BYD is great deal specially for the fleet operators, and that’s what BYD is aiming for.
