The UNP College of Architecture–Atelier Council (CAAC) has been reaccredited as part of the UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines on August 8, 2025, marking its second consecutive year of recognition.

CAAC was first accredited last school year and is now one of the 12 student organizations in the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) recognized as UNESCO Clubs. The council completed the required application process, submission of documents, and screening conducted by the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NAUCP) to secure its reaccreditation.

UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines are student organizations that implement programs and activities aligned with UNESCO’s values, such as cultural heritage preservation, education, environmental sustainability, and youth leadership. Being part of this network allows student organizations to participate in regional and national events, exchanges, and projects that promote these advocacies.

The accreditation ceremony for CAAC will be held during the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) on November 21–23, 2025 at Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort, Nasugbu, Batangas. The event will bring together youth organizations and members of UNESCO Clubs from across the country.

If CAAC maintains reaccreditation for another year, it will be recognized as a Hall of Fame Outstanding Club, a distinction given to UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines that sustain continuous accreditation for three years.

New ideas, bolder decisions, and research-based innovations dominated the week as the 8th Regional Research Congress closed its curtains after the recognition of the brightest scholars of the region.

Jointly organized by the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), and Commission on Higher Education Region I (CHED-Region I), the two-day Congress was held from August 14 to 15 under the theme "Connected Minds, Collective Impact: Advancing Knowledge and Innovations for a Sustainable Future."

Dozens of researchers presented their studies under six major fields, addressing problems ranging from sustainable agriculture to educational innovations. The event has allowed simultaneous presentations of all the projects, where each presenter defended his/her work in front of panels of experts.

The UNP Research Team proudly made its mark at the Congress through the outstanding work of Ma’am Ludivina A. Lozano. Along with her co-researchers Hyacinth P. Feliciano and Rommel F. Feliciano, she received recognition in the Health category for their study on Air Particulate Matters in Public Hospital Isolation Rooms in Ilocos Sur.

The research not only secured them a prestigious award but also clinched 1st Runner-Up for Best Presentation in the Health category. The achievement stands as a testament to the UNP’s commitment to multidisciplinary research, proving that innovation in architecture can create meaningful impact far beyond buildings extending into the very air we breathe.

Renewed calls for collaboration wrapped the congress, with organizers adding that everything shared in the last two days was just a genesis of a prolonged endeavor toward a more sustainable and innovative future for the region.

On August 16, 1891, San Sebastian Church in Quiapo, Manila, was consecrated – standing proud as Asia’s only all-steel church.🛠️⛪

Built in Gothic Revival style, its parts were prefabricated in Belgium, shipped to Manila, and assembled like a giant architectural puzzle.

Designed to be fireproof and earthquake-resistant, this towering masterpiece is living proof that Filipino heritage isn’t just stone and wood, it’s innovation, resilience, and faith fused in steel.

San Sebastian reminds us that architecture is more than concrete, wood, or steel – it is about building with purpose, courage, and foresight, creating spaces that stand strong for generations to come.💡✨
