Breaking Records' second release is a joint effort with Contraszt! We will release Cinder Well first full-length album ‘The Unconscious Echo’ on vinyl!
Amelia Baker, the multi-instrumentalist behind Cinder Well, is a good friend of ours, and an amazing musician, who works so hard on her art, it's next-level inspirational. With 'The Unconscious Echo' she has made a very emotionally/historically/politically motivated dark folk record that we would love for you to hear.
On this album Amelia is joined by Marit Schmidt (Vradiazei/Varda/Sangre de Muerdago) on vocals and viola, Mae Kessler (Ekstasis/Varda) on violin and Magnus Nymo (Lyngfarer) on vocals and drums, all friends that we miss dearly.
For Erik and me this is somewhat of a perfect record, it's very dark and loud to satisfy his need for dark and loud and even though I'm not much in the Anarcho folk scene nowadays, I do stil love a good folk song and I have loved all of Amelia's projects from the early 2010's.
For those of you familiar with Contraszts’ discography this doomy, drone-folk record might seem like a deviation. But it makes total sense. Amelia and Cinder Well are part of the DIY community and Erik and me and Philipp are all connected to Cinder Well in some way or the other.
(Also there’s some sick double bass on the end of ‘Brittle Bones’, the seventh track on the record, so it really makes even more sense).
By releasing this record together with Philipp and Amelia, (two friends we normally would have crossed paths with this last year) we want to share this beautiful haunting body of work, and (finally) make it available on vinyl too.
Hit us up if you want to get this record pressed on 180 grams black vinyl.
