Gallup, New Mexico – Gallup Lady Bengals senior Rylie Whitehair celebrated a pivotal milestone in her athletic and academic journey on Saturday, signing her letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Driven by determination both on and off the court, Whitehair will major in Biology at UTRGV as she works toward her ultimate goal of becoming a pediatrician.
Whitehair’s legacy as a Bengal is nothing short of remarkable. She is a 2023 State Champion, a 1,000-point career scorer, last season’s All-State selection, and District 1-4A Player of the Year. These accomplishments are a testament to her relentless dedication, skill, and passion for the game.
During the ceremony, Whitehair and her family honored her coaches with thoughtful gifts, presenting them with Navajo bracelets and blankets as a token of appreciation for their guidance and support throughout her journey.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Whitehair thanked the coaches who have mentored her from elementary school through high school, as well as her new college coach at UTRGV. She also acknowledged her family and the loyal Bengal Nation fans who stood by her every step of the way.
"Thank you, Bengal Nation, for always believing in me and my teammates," Whitehair said with pride. "This is just the beginning!"
As she steps into this new chapter, Rylie Whitehair carries with her the pride of her community and the promise of even greater achievements ahead.
