For nearly a year after leaving the classroom, I couldnât admit I was building a business.
Not because I wasnât working hard. Not because I wasnât helping people.
But because it didnât feel real.
I didn't have anywhere to get to at 7am. There was no SLT. No bells told me when to start or stop.
So I fumbled my way into finding my own structure.
I sat at my desk 9 til 5 every day, even when there was no need to and filled my time with Canva graphics and unnecessary website tweaks because âbusyâ felt like proof I was doing something right.
It took time (and a few emotional chats with fellow ex-teachers) to realise - I hadnât left teaching to recreate another job. Iâd left to build something better.
These days, my calendar includes creating content, client work and business admin BUT it also has space for the gym, school drop offs, lunch dates on a Wednesday and getting my nails done.
I still work hard. But now I do it on my terms.
If youâve recently stepped out of the classroom and feel like youâre âfaffing your way throughâ know that it's part of the journey. Youâre adjusting. And one day, it will feel real and it'll be totally worth it.
Promise.
