Public accountability is fundamental to national development.

When public funds are spent without accountability or any commensurate developmental progress in the communities, public trust is lost as the citizenry begins to ask many many questions.

Verifiable reports abound that show that a lot of our commonwealth are in the hands of the state and local government authorities with little or nothing to write about developments specifically in our local government areas.

Isnt it a thought-proviking reality?

How long can our pains go without us taking?

What has happened to all these bogus allocations?

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY IS LONG OVERDUE IN OYO STATE

The attached pictures are evidence to prove that allowing Local Government Autonomy to fly in our country, particularly Oyo State of ours, will only do us well as a people.

Those are pictures of some social amenities being provided by an LCDA in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Was it possible because Lagos State has the most viable economy?

Will allowing the Local Government to breathe take away the State Governor's authority?

Why will the Oyo State Government not set the pace on this matter?

Do you think the state of your Local Government is admirable enough to remain so?

Let's have a conversation on this issue. Oyo State needs a more functional local government as that is the only way the dividends of this democratic governance can reach the unreached.

OGF COMMENDS GOV. SEYI MAKINDE ON AYO LADIGBOLU ROAD, IBADAN
…Calls attention to state of roads in Oyo.

Oyo Global Forum (OGF) heartily commends Gov. Seyi Makinde for naming the newly dualised 5.9km Akobo Ojurin-Olorunda Aba road after the distinguished Oyo-born Prince, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu. Prince Ayo Ladigbolu is clearly a worthy recipient of this recognition for his unmatched love, dedication and commitment to the development of Oyo metropolis and the state at large over the years. His scores of contributions speak volume and we are very happy this is happening while he is still alive and hearty. It is a big congratulations to all the Oyo citizens across the world.

The historic road commissioning was held on Wednesday, 23rd July, 2025 at the Nathaniel O. Idowu Comprehensive High School, Olorunda Abaa, Ibadan having cream of government functionaries, royal fathers, community leaders and Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu himself in attendance.

The road project is a very strategic one as it links several rural communities and will certainly open up and boost business opportunities in those areas it covers, underscoring a commitment to inclusive and transformative governance.

However, the leadership of the OGF wishes to use this medium to draw the attention of Oyo State Government to the current embarrassingly poor state of roads within the Oyo Federal Constituency, terribly affecting living and businesses across our four local government areas. As much as we are immensely pleased with various developmental activities of the government across the state, we can not pretend that we are pleased that our own community has been grossly maginalised and sidelined from the distribution of these good developments, specifically road projects. Roads within the Oyo metropolis have gone so bad, even some are now completely immotorable to the extent that a State of Emergency should have been declared on them.

It is high time Governor Seyi Makinde came to our aid by fixing all the awarded roads within the Oyo zone.

As we celebrate this milestone of naming a major road in Ibadan after our very distinguished son and father, we solemnly appeal to the Governor to look into other developmental challenges confronting Oyo zone and do the needful as he rounds off his tenure in office.

Once again, OGF says a big thank-you to Governor Seyi Makinde for recognizing our son for such a historic gesture.

OYO-YORUBA CULTURAL HERITAGE AT STAKE: OYO GLOBAL FORUM CALLS FOR WITHDRAWAL OF OBAS' CONCURRENT CHAIRMANSHIP BILL

The Oyo Global Forum (OGF), a global network of Nigerians of Oyo extraction, unequivocally condemns the Council of Obas and Chiefs (Further Amendment) Bill, 2025, currently before the Oyo State House of Assembly. This bill seeks to strip the Alaafin of Oyo of his rightful SOLE permanent chairmanship of the Council of Obas, and introduce a concurrent arrangement placing the Alaafin, the Olubadan of Ibadan, and the Soun of Ogbomoso as equals.

This proposal challenges a deeply rooted institution that has, for centuries, symbolised the cultural unity and identity and civilisation of the Yoruba people. The Alaafin’s role as Permanent Chairman is not a matter of privilege or politics, but one rooted in historical precedent and traditional seniority.

This bill, if passed, risks undermining a centuries-long legacy, one that Yoruba people should be proud of and ready to protect and preserve at all times. However, we have witnessed with grave concern a troubling blend of steps to degrade the influence of the Alaafin. At one point, Alaafin's chiefs were elevated to Part II obas while the throne of their natural consenting authority was vacant, creating a bad precedent that severely limits the Alaafin's powers over them when they go rogue and rebellious, or are even influenced by external forces against the Alaafin.

Since the coronation of Alaafin Owoade I, there has been a growing hope for the restoration and continuity of the revered stool. However, this bill threatens to set even worse and worrisome precedents that distort traditional hierarchies.

To legislate a concurrent chairmanship not only risks a destabilising reinterpretation of Yoruba traditional hierarchies but also disregards the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of the Alaafin's place in our collective identity.

We urge all stakeholders to approach this moment with a clear understanding of what is at stake: not just positions or titles, but the legacy of an entire civilization, the common heritage of a proud Oyo-Yoruba people.

CHARGES TO STAKEHOLDERS

To the Oyo State House of Assembly:
We call on you to reconsider and withdraw this bill. Legislative power must be exercised with a deep sense of historical responsibility. The current proposal could cause irreparable damage to the traditional balance in the state and indeed the entire Yorubaland. We appeal to your conscience and your duty to serve the public good, including the preservation of our cultural institutions.

To Governor Seyi Makinde:
Your record contains noteworthy strides in governance and infrastructure. Yet, leadership is often defined by the cultural choices we defend. We urge you to reject any move that could erode the heritage of the people. This bill places your otherwise impressive legacy at risk of lasting damage. Stand as a custodian of Yoruba tradition and protect the integrity of the institution of the Alaafin.

To Traditional Stakeholders and Royal Institutions:
We acknowledge your position as stewards of Yoruba tradition and heritage. We believe that your intentions are aligned with the preservation of our history and centuries-long traditional order. But current developments, especially this bill being rushed by the Oyo State lawmakers, place this legacy in jeopardy. We call on you to stand up for what your titles represent.

To Yoruba People at Home and in the Diaspora:
This is a call to cultural duty. Our heritage must not be redefined without our voices. Let us engage constructively, mobilize thoughtfully, and resist any erosion of our ancestral institutions. The Alaafin’s stool is a cultural cornerstone. It must be protected.

This is more than a legislative matter; it is a defining moment for our cultural identity. The Alaafin must remain the SOLE Permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.

That is our position. And that must not change.

Taiwo Adebayo
Oyo Global Forum Chairman

Good morning.
I wanted to quickly provide two updates.
1. We have paid a sum of 2.550 million Naira toward the completion of the children's ward at the State Hospital, Oyo. This will enable us to finish the block level, cast all pillars, and hopefully complete the lintel.
2. Additionally, we have paid a sum of 560 thousand Naira to produce copies of New General Mathematics textbook customised to commemorate the installation of the Alaafin. The textbooks will be distributed to senior secondary students at a quiz competition planned along with the installation ceremony.
Back to the hospital project, this is a top priority for OGF given its significant public good value. We encourage members to kindly donate toward the project and help the most vulnerable among us. It would also be a valuable act of charity during this period of Ramadan and Lent.

Furthermore, if you have not paid your annual due (and voluntary donations), please do so now so we are well-resourced for our initiatives. We will direct most of the revenue from annual dues to the hospital project.

Please use OGF account for your payments.

OGF TO RAISE FUND FOR THE COMPLETION OF CHILDREN'S WARD AT GENERAL HOSPITAL, NAMES FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

Oyo Global Forum is helping to raise the funds needed to complete the critically and urgently needed children's ward at the General Hospital Oyo, as part of efforts to focus interventions on the social well-being of the community.

The General Hospital, Oyo, currently lacks a dedicated children's ward and this has created a significant gap in the care available for our youngest and most vulnerable patients. Currently, children in need of inpatient care are admitted to the male ward, which not only compromises their comfort and safety but also strains the resources allocated for adult male patients. This situation is critical, as many children requiring hospitalization are turned away due to inadequate facilities.

Therefore, Oyo Global Forum has established an understanding with the hospital management to mobilise the resources needed to complete this vital facility. The children’s ward, currently at the lintel level of construction, is designed to include an 18-bed capacity, complete with a nursing station, sideward, clinical areas, and bathroom and toilet facilities for both staff and patients.

A fundraising committee has been named to help mobilise the funds needed to complete the project in phases. OGF will provide an initial 1 million as a seed fund while the committee raises additional funds.

Press Statement

Oyo Global Forum Calls for Urgent Action Against Rising Kidnapping for Ransom in Oyo

Oyo Global Forum is calling on the Oyo State Government to take urgent action against the alarming rise in abduction for ransom in Oyo Federal Constituency. In recent months, this troubling trend has intensified, affecting men, women, and young people across various communities, particularly suburban and country areas. Our people are being forced to pay huge sums, that should go into investments and financing education and healthcare, to secure the freedom of their loved ones. This traumatic and financially draining ordeal must not be allowed to continue.

We are deeply concerned that the growing wave of kidnappings is being fueled by a perceived dereliction of responsibility on the part of the law enforcement. This security gap has emboldened the kidnappers, leaving our communities vulnerable.

We, therefore, urge Governor Seyi Makinde to leverage his position to demand greater accountability and responsiveness from law enforcement agencies, especially the police. In particular, there is a pressing need to enhance security presence in rural areas, which have become hotspots for these criminal activities.

Furthermore, we call on the Governor to capacitate the Amotekun Corps and strengthen its operational capabilities. We believe that Amotekun is a valuable resource in the fight against kidnappers, and enhancing its capacity for both offensive and preventive actions is urgently needed to restore security in our communities. In addition, Governor Makinde should effectively enforce the state law against unrestricted grazing. Interviews with released victims and families negotiating the release of their loved ones show that the perpetrators are often rogue herders. They are exploiting the situation of unrestricted grazing to access our rural communities and abduct our defenseless people. Added to the perennial violence involving them and farmers, the kidnappings have even deepened the troubles of farmers, who might start abandoning farms to mitigate dangers to their lives.

We appeal to the state government to act swiftly and decisively to protect the people.

Signed,
Taiwo Hassan Adebayo, OGF Chairman.

We understand the profound grief and immense loss being experienced by Governor and the entire family during this difficult time of grief, realising that the loss of a sibling is an irreplaceable pain that can only be imagined in view of the void the absence of Engr. Chief Lasisi Ayanyinka Ayankojo, an esteemed political and community leader, died this evening, aged 94.

Baba Ayankojo was famous for his principled leadership of the Isale Oyo community, where he led efforts on public education and the protection of community rights. Beyond Isale Oyo, many benefited from his mentorship and leadership. In politics and public sector leadership, he was a progressive leader, who offered his back to a number of younger politicians to ride on and once the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission.

He will be buried tomorrow according to Islamic rites at his residence on Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway.

May the Almighty grant him mercy and a place in Jannah. We our heartfelt condolences to his family, including our member Hadji Tunde Ayankojo⁩, and pray for their comfort during this period.

On behalf of Oyo Global Forum, we extend our gratitude to everyone who attended the Third Olu Afolabi Roundtable and followed virtually. We especially appreciate Senator Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman, Hon. Oluwagbenga Joseph Oyekola, and Hon. Prince Oladeji Oparinde. They formed the panel as elected representatives of our people and gave an account of their stewardship, provided enlightening details of their roles as lawmakers, made commitments on critical issues of public concern, and committed to ensuring their work aligns with the needs and aspirations of our people.

We also hugely thank the Bashorun of Oyo Land, the Lagunna of Oyo Land, Alaaketan of Oyo Land, Alaguo of Oyo Land, Arch Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Dr. Sulleiman Adediran, who gave a keynote, Professor Adeolu Olawuyi, who chaired the Roundtable, and several other leaders who represented various sectors of the four LGAs that form Oyo Federal Constituency.

The immediate feedback following the Roundtable shows our people are deeply appreciative of the initiative that created a non-partisan public accountability platform and offered them an avenue to ask their mandate holders questions.

The resolution to convene a follow-up event in January to update on the commitments made underscores our collective dedication to progress and transparency. We eagerly look forward to reconvening and continuing our journey towards a brighter future for Oyo.

Thank you once again for your unwavering support and engagement.

Taiwo Adebayo, OGF Chairman.
