OGF STATEMENT ON THE RESCUE OF THE ORIIRE TERROR VICTIMS
..demands "Never Again" mindset.

The Oyo Global Forum expresses profound joy and satisfaction following the freedom of the victims of the terror attack in Oriire LGA of Oyo State. This development brings a sense of relief to the affected families, the local communities, and the general public who have followed this harrowing ordeal.

OGF highly commends the joint security forces, including local collaborators, who worked under tough conditions for nearly two months, applying sustained pressure, pinning down the terrorists and ensuring the victims were not moved out of the Old Oyo National Park.

We would like to stress that the immediate well-being of the survivors must now be the top priority. It is imperative that they are promptly provided with comprehensive psychosocial support to help them process the deep trauma of their captivity and begin the journey toward healing and rehabilitation.

Looking ahead, while thanking President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde for their leadership, OGF would like to emphasise that our collective mindset from this moment must strictly be "never again." The government across all levels must urgently put certai. measures in place to prevent a reoccurrence. This requires proactive, long-term security strategies that enhance the resilience of communities and integrate into an early-warning system implemented not only in Oriire but nationwide, with a specific, focus on blocking the southward expansion of terrorism. It is also critical that rural development is enhanced and communities have access services to deny armed groups the opportunities to entrench themselves.

On Saturday, May 16, the Oyo Global Forum held its 2026 Students Career Development and Debate Summit at St. Mary Callista Hall, St. Bernardine Girls' Grammar School, Oyo.

The one-day event hosted nine (9) fully represented secondary schools out of the twelve (12) invited schools from the Oyo Federal Constituency, cutting across the four Local Government zones; Oyo East, Oyo West, Atiba, and Afijio.

Based on our 2026 theme agenda, "Beyond the Classroom: Preparing for Life Ahead", we aim to inspire and equip students from SS1 - SS2 with the clarity, motivation, and direction required to make informed academic and career decisions.

In that regard, we hosted Barr. Seun Ashamu, the Honourable Commissioner for Budget & Economic Planning of Oyo State, as our Keynote Speaker, making him cover a broader perspective on thematic realities around law, governance, diplomacy, management, and development.

To further promote an informed community of students, we also hosted sessions across all tracks; Sciences, Commercial, and Arts. These sessions were led by P. Surv. Ajeigbe Joseph Olusola; Lead Surveyor/Director of Operations, Bomtrack Nigeria Limited. Also Mrs. Ibrahim Taibat Adunola, Lecturer at Federal College of Education Special, and lastly, Mr. Olugboyega Oyeniyi; Bursar, Atiba University, Oyo.

For the debate session, some of the represented schools spoke in support of the topic, while some others spoke against the topic "Career Success Depends More on Passion than Financial Motivation". In that sequence, 3 schools emerged as winners of the cash prizes, while other participating schools were awarded certificates of participation.

Cash prizes were awarded to the top three schools - Army Children with a cumulative score of 89 points as winner, and with a sum of one hundred thousand naira ( #100,000), followed by Ladigbolu Grammar School, which emerged as first runner-up with 84 points and with a cash prize of fifty thousand naira ( #50,000), and the second runner-up; Olivet Baptist High School, with 83 points, was awarded twenty-five thousand naira ( #25,000). Other consolation prizes and monetary gifts were also presented to some of the participating schools and individuals.

This program, led by Taiwo Sunday Timothy; the Education Secretary of Oyo Global Forum, also hosted dignitaries from the Oyo environs.

“It is a dangerous signal that organised banditry and terrorism are advancing deeper into Southwestern Nigeria despite repeated warnings in recent years,” the statement said.

The group called on security agencies and all levels of government to take immediate action to secure the release of the abducted pupils and prevent further attacks in vulnerable communities.

“We demand immediate and decisive action from security agencies and all levels of government to secure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils without delay.

“Every hour of slow response emboldens these armed criminal groups and increases the risk of further attacks across vulnerable communities and adjoining forest corridors linked to Kwara and Niger States,” the statement said.”

The group described the attack on Ahoro-Esinele community as a dangerous signal of worsening insecurity in the region.

Oyo School Abduction: OGF’s Statement

Oyo Global Forum strongly condemns the abduction of pupils and the killing of a teacher and other person in Ahoro-Esinele, an Oyo community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. According to community sources, the attack started around 10 AM and was carried out by over 30 gunmen, who came on motorcycles and dressed in army uniforms. The attackers then moved the abducted students into the Old Oyo National Park. it is a dangerous signal that organised banditry and terrorism are advancing deeper into Southwestern Nigeria despite repeated warnings in recent years.

We demand immediate and decisive action from security agencies and all levels of government to secure the safe rescue of the abducted pupils without delay. Every hour of slow response emboldens these armed criminal groups and increases the risk of further attacks across vulnerable communities and adjoining forest corridors linked to Kwara and Niger States.

This must not be treated as an isolated incident. It is a clear national security threat requiring sustained military, intelligence, and community-based security operations. Beyond the immediate rescue efforts, government must urgently establish a preventive security framework across the affected axis, including strengthened rural policing, coordinated forest surveillance, and a functional early warning and rapid response system developed in partnership with local communities.

The people of Oyo State, particularly the northern axis linked with Kwara through poorly governed forest corridors, must not be left exposed to terror. The time for reactive official statements condemning attacks has passed. What we demand now is visible action, rapid intervention, and long-term security measures capable of preventing armed groups from gaining a foothold in our area.

Oyo Global Forum (OGF) has carefully curated an excellent line up of professionals across different industries - all for one goal.

Meanwhile, this isn’t a regular summit, and for the peculiarity of this one, it is targeted towards posterity; what to know, and how to be prepared as a revolutionary in the midst of societal noise.

OGF’s mission to this course is however, strategic; to expose students to opportunities, to mentor and shape their narratives, and also to ignite their passion towards academic success and excellence all rounder.

Having unveiled other speakers, we also present our own, who'd be moderating the panel session; Sunday Taiwo, the Education Secretary of OGF and a Development Communications Professional.

On Saturday, 16th May, each speaker will share their career journey, highlight opportunities and challenges in their field, and engage students through Q&A sessions. We look forward to hosting everyone invited for this amazing program.

The system and structure that brings success is an holistic one. Every single encounter, conversation, sacrifice, network, mindset enlargement and so on - all counts for a purpose.

There is a demand in our community, and the demand is human capital. We need to stretch, build, raise, and shape the becoming of the younger generations.

On this note, and in order to fill the knowledge gap, Oyo Global Forum presents *Mrs. Ibrahim Taibat Adunola, a lecturer from the Department of Social Studies, Federal College of Education, (Special) Oyo.*

Her dedication to the education sector over time as a sociologist cm entrepreneur who is passionate about youth development and community impact is a laudable one.

Ajeigbe Joseph Olusola, the Lead Surveyor and Director of Operations at Bomtrack Nigeria Limited, Lagos.* And this invitation is strategic as he comes to contribute to the theme: _Beyond the Classroom: Preparing for Life Ahead_.

P. Surv. Ajeigbe is a man of value and impact, and over the years, he has actively engaged secondary students within Lagos and Oyo state through the “Mapping the Future” outreach; an extension of FIG Young Surveyors Network, Lagos State Branch.

Oyo Global Forum (OGF) presents the Students Career Development & Debate Summit 2026.

At a time when many students lack access to clear career guidance and mentorship, often resulting in poor subject combination choices and low motivation toward academic excellence, this initiative is a community-driven response designed to equip participants with practical career insights, strong personal values, and the confidence needed to make informed decisions about their future.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Bernard Hall, Oyo, the Summit will bring together selected secondary school students (SS1–SS3) from across Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East, and Oyo West. Through interactive sessions, career talks, and mentorship engagements, students will be exposed to diverse opportunities, helping them align their interests with realistic and achievable career goals.

The second segment of the event will feature a highly engaging intellectual debate. This segment aims to build critical thinking skills and inspire a culture of possibility and resilience. We invite members, stakeholders, and well-meaning individuals to support this initiative by sponsoring prizes and contributing to the success of the programme.
