“You are not the first and you are not the last.” ~ Mary’s mom 🥲

There’s a lot more to self-love than feeling good about yourself. Though self-compassion is clearly associated with better mental health, stronger relationships, healthier behaviors, and greater resilience, the interesting part of the research is what happens *underneath* all of that: how changing the way you relate to yourself can actually change the way you behave, especially when you fail, struggle, or suffer.

Our new episode dives into the research behind self-love and self-compassion to uncover some surprising ways they can change your motivation, emotional regulation, and relationship with failure.

What do you think?

I believe we’ve gotten really comfortable with “cut them off” as the answer to relationship conflict.

Not every conflict means a relationship is toxic or needs to end. Sometimes we need the skills to communicate, navigate differences, and work through conflict instead of immediately walking away.

And of course, there are relationships where leaving is necessary. The point is learning the difference.

What if your beauty standards aren’t actually yours?

Dr. Thema asks us to get curious about the messages we’ve absorbed about what makes someone beautiful.

Because we’re surrounded by advertising, media, and cultural expectations telling women what to change, fix, remove, hide, or buy. And when we hear those messages enough, they can start to feel like our own thoughts.

“Can you tell when the propaganda is working?”

That question really stayed with me.

Maybe part of healing is learning to notice the machine without automatically believing what it tells us.

Dr. Thema’s dad saw something on her license that terrified him…

A good example of how generational trauma gets passed down.

So how can you learn to love yourself in a world that wounds you?

That’s what we’re unpacking in our latest pod convo with Dr. Thema ❤️‍🩹

JUSTICE 👏 IS 👏 A 👏 MENTAL 👏 HEALTH 👏 ISSUE 👏

We tend to think of mental health as something that happens inside of us. But what happens around us matters, too.

As Dr. Thema says, when people are living with inequity, instability, discrimination, poverty, or a lack of safety and dignity, that stress affects our mental health.

And I think this is such an important expansion of what we mean when we talk about healing: we can do personal work while also recognizing that some of what hurts us is bigger than us.

if you’ve ever felt like you’re doing more mental and emotional labor than your partner, this conversation is for you.

get ready to feel seen, heard, and understood in this conversation with Eve Rodsky (Fair Play + Unicorn Space) about the invisible and unpaid labor of women.

this conversation is for anyone who feels like they’re taking on more responsibility in their relationship than their partner. and if you’re single/dating and see yourself in a long-term partnership in the future, NOW is the time to start thinking about what “fair play” looks like.

you will learn…

* why women do more unpaid labor + some shocking statistics
* the secret formula for rebalancing the responsibilities in your household
* how boundaries, systems, and communication can completely change the way you share a life
* how to challenge the cultural assumptions that say you have to “do it all”

remember: these gender imbalances are NOT YOUR FAULT, nor are they your partner’s. there are a lot of cultural assumptions at play here, and it’s time to dismantle them to create a more equitable partnership.

if you’re comfortable sharing, i’d love to know how invisible, emotional, and/or unpaid labor affects your relationship. 🙏
