More retail and office spaces in Bellingham are on the market.

Ryan Martin, co-owner of Pacific Continental Realty, says that total retail vacancies in the city increased by nearly 90,000 square feet between April and June. The vacancy rate rose from 3.6% in the first quarter to 4.5% in the second.

The vacancy is largely due to the bankruptcies and closures of Rite Aid and JoAnn Fabrics, which account for almost half of the increase.

Martin said Bellis Fair Mall remained relatively stable as vacancy rates rose across the rest of the city.

Clean Cut Futures is a group focused on offering haircuts and changing lives to incarcerated individuals in the area.

The nonprofit says that vehicles ranging from classic American muscle cars to Hellcats and Harleys will be on display at the car show.

Only those who draw their water without a disinfection system directly from Lake Whatcom are being advised to boil their water for at least a minute before consuming it.

Starting a record label may not be for everyone, but for Nico Sanchez it just made sense.

The musician started Black Noise Records in 2016, a year after moving to Bellingham to attend Western Washington University.

“I feel like this store would really only be possible in like cities like this, because there’s a demand for it,” Sanchez said. “I didn’t feel like it existed in Seattle; there’s so many record stores and there’s so much competition and the rent is so high.”

Trail improvements will soon be coming to a part of south Bellingham.

Bellingham City Council approved a bid from Faber Construction on Monday night at their regular meeting, giving the “okay” for the company to begin improvements in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Plans include trail narrowing and resurfacing, native planting, building a habitat fence, a new bridge crossing over Hoag’s Creek and new boardwalks and park benches.
