Gov Abdulrazaq okays N20bn to revamp school infrastructure across Kwara

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has directed that N20bn be allocated in the supplementary budget for further revamp of school infrastructure across the state.

Doubling down on its own record, the new investment will strengthen the massive infrastructural upgrade in public schools, which the administration has embarked upon since 2020 after retooling Kwara’s relationship with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

"His Excellency has instructed that we dedicate another N20bn to school infrastructural upgrades. The process has started already. The designs are being made, and we will get down to this as soon as the supplementary budget is approved," Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe said in a statement.

"This is not a standalone effort. It is only another major intervention of the administration to scale up what we have been doing. Between 2019 and now, the administration has worked on more than 1,254 classrooms — apart from several other special interventions."

He said the administration is proud to have implemented SUBEB-UBEC school intervention projects from 2014 and now — a feat that he said is unique to the Abdulrazaq administration.

Olohungbebe said the new intervention, which will also include laboratory and sanitation facilities, targets schools in different parts of the state, complementing the ongoing interventions at SUBEB.

"Despite our huge interventions, we acknowledge that there are still gaps, and that is exactly why His Excellency is approving another special intervention to further close the gaps in school infrastructure," he added.

Cable Theft Suspects Apprehended in Ilorin East by vigilante security Team

The vigilant security team of Ilorin East Local Government has apprehended two individuals involved in the criminal act of vandalizing public infrastructure. On the early morning of Friday, 1st August 2025, around 5:00 AM, two suspects were caught in the act of cutting electric supply and cable wires in Ita Alade, along Sekun.

The suspects have been identified as:
1. Abubakar Aliu.
2. Moses Kefas
Both suspects are from Kaduna State.

The arrest was made by our dedicated Iponrin vigilante personnel who were on routine patrol when the crime was detected. The Chief Security Officer of the Council (CSO) Alhaji Toyin Saka Alao immediately contacted the police officers, and the suspects were swiftly handed over to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Iponrin for further investigation and legal action.

The cable theft has affected several communities in the area, including:
Ita-Alade, Iponrin, Ajelende, Famole, Kure, Onikoko, Woru, Abudu, Aloko and Afara Communities.

The matter is now under investigation at the Police Headquarters, where necessary legal procedures are being taken.

The Executive Chairman Mallam Garba Olayinka Lukman Agbelere commend the efforts of our local vigilante group for their continued commitment to community safety and urge all residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

“TOMATO WAHALA AT PANKSHIN MONDAY MARKET”

Last Monday at Pankshin Market, tomato business nearly turned into WWE.

Mama Lokrit accused Mama Bedinwa of "spraying perfume on her tomatoes" to attract customers.
Mama Bedinwa fired back, “Na lie! Na the blessing of God make my tomatoes shine like morning sun!”

Next thing we knew — tomatoes were flying like grenades. One even hit the chief butcher, who shouted,
“I sell meat, not salad!”

The market chairman had to blow his whistle three times before peace returned. But even then, Mama Lokrit was still shouting,
“Next market day, I’m bringing tomato police!”

Now, this Monday, everyone’s watching to see who shows up first… and who brings the first scented tomato.

Better come early — not to shop, but to spectate.

-have a great day ahead
