Karnataka Turns to Cloud Seeding as Monsoon Weakens

Rainfall deficit across several parts of Karnataka has raised concerns over drought-like conditions.

State has launched a ₹28.52-crore cloud-seeding project to support rainfall in deficient areas.

Two committees have now been formed to monitor the operation and provide scientific guidance.

Technical panel includes experts and officials from KSNDMC, IMD, IISc, Remote Sensing Centre and IITM Pune.

What will they do?
They will monitor weather conditions, guide the operations and evaluate whether cloud seeding is producing the desired results.

But can cloud seeding actually make it rain?

Karnataka to Submit Drought Report to Centre by First Week of September

Karnataka has declared 101 taluks drought-affected following a detailed assessment of rainfall, crop conditions, soil moisture, groundwater levels and water availability.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara said the State will prepare a detailed drought memorandum and submit it to the Centre, paving the way for a central team’s assessment and possible drought relief.

* 101 taluks declared drought-affected
* 89 severely affected and 12 moderately affected
* 32 more taluks remain under review
* Drought conditions will be reassessed periodically

Karnataka Launches GIS App to Track 3 Lakh Rural Water Assets
A new digital push for rural drinking water management
Karnataka has launched a GIS-based mobile and web app to track and manage rural water assets and improve transparency.

📍 3 lakh+ rural water assets to be digitised
📍 70,000+ assets already documented
📍 3-level verification system for greater accountability
📍 Geo-tagging with around 5-metre accuracy
📍 Designed to curb fake bills and improve project monitoring
📍 7,700 borewells already recharged

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwar B. Khandre said the system will record details of borewells, tanks, pump houses, water treatment plants and other rural water infrastructure.

State is also implementing single-village and multi-village drinking water projects involving around ₹67,000 crore.

The panel will examine key concerns including:

ರೈಲ್ವೆ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸಚಿವರಾಗಿ ಅಧಿಕಾರ ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರದೇಶದ ಆಡಳಿತಾತ್ಮಕ ಗೊಂದಲಗಳನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸುವುದು ತಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆದ್ಯತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿತ್ತು ಎಂದು ಸಚಿವರು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ತಾವು ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ ಆರಂಭಿಕ ನಗರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರು ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಜುಲೈ 2024 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ರೈಲ್ವೆ (SR), ನೈಋತ್ಯ ರೈಲ್ವೆ (SWR) ಜನರಲ್ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜರ್‌ಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಕೊಂಕಣ್ ರೈಲ್ವೆ (KRCL) ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಾಪಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉನ್ನತ ಮಟ್ಟದ ಸಭೆ ನಡೆಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಬಗೆಹರಿಯದೆ ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದ ಈ ಸಂಕೀರ್ಣ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಸಭೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಳವಾದ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕರ ಹಿತದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಲಾದ ಈ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾವನೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಷಣ ಸ್ಪಂದಿಸಿ ಅನುಮೋದನೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ಸಚಿವರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಅಶ್ವಿನಿ ವೈಷ್ಣವ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಚಿವರು ವಿಶೇಷ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
