𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥

Vargöns Bruk was founded in 1874 and became one of the region’s most important paper mills.

For well over a century it produced pulp and paper, providing jobs and shaping the town’s industrial identity.

In the 20th century the mill expanded with modern facilities, but global competition eventually made production unprofitable.

The site finally closed in 2008, after 134 years of operation.

In the early 2000s, an ambitious project took shape: a hotel designed to resemble a cruise ship, complete with seven stories, sweeping decks, and over 70 rooms. Though it never sailed, it aimed to offer a unique experience on land.

The venture struggled with setbacks — from economic troubles to local unease — and was eventually abandoned.

In 2024, a fire severely damaged the structure, and it was dismantled the following year.
