Lafiagi Waterworks Remain Functional!

The rehabilitated Lafiagi Waterworks has been supplying water for public use—an act further backed the statement released in 2024 by the Ministry of Water Resources that the project has been fully completed.

Residents commended the state government for its ceaseless efforts to ensure constant and portable water for the people of Lafiagi and other neighboring communities.

Lafiagi Waterworks Remain Functional—Lafiagi Community Members Attested

Earlier today, the Ministry of Water Resources sent a group of engineers to the site with diesel to further operate the facility.

This was carried out to reaffirm the Ministry’s earlier stands that the project has successfully been completed and in contrast to the rumor flying around that the project is nonfunctional.

All pumps were running non-stop. Relevant stakeholders and members of the lafiaji community also witnessed the smooth and steady operation of the facility.

Efforts are also in place to find a lasting solution to the electricity challenges affecting the smooth running of the facility.

The claim that the recently rehabilitated Lafiagi Waterworks is nonfunctional is lame and also an attempt to sabotage the effort of the state government in water sector.

*Emir of Lafiagi Cautions Youths Against Inciteful publications*

• Says Nupeko TV-Lafiagi Facing Consequences of His Actions

After the Jumu’at prayer on Friday, October 17, 2025, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, spoke strongly against some youths in Lafiagi Emirate, especially the publisher of Nupeko TV-Lafiagi, for constantly sharing unverified, defamatory and misleading information online to stir the people against the government.

The Emir mentioned that some elders were also involved in giving these youths false stories to post and spread. “We have looked into some of these things and even talked to the youths involved. There’s clear evidence that some people send them these false stories to publish,” he said in the video, which was delivered in Nupe.

He also spoke about the Lafiagi Waterworks project, saying that everyone knows the challenges and that it’s best to handle the matter peacefully, where there's need for clarifications while acknowledging the state government’s financial commitment to the project.

The Emir while speaking on ongoing legal case against the Nupeko TV-Lafiagi publisher and the Honourable Commissioner said, "You can’t insult or defame someone and expect there won’t be consequences. What is happening to NupekoTV-Lafiagi is what he wants for himself"

He further questioned those claiming to have privately appealed to the Honourable Commissioner to withdraw the case, asking why they have not openly stated the reasons for his refusal, noting that the people of Patigi have supported him because they know the truth — or, as he humorously asked the congregation, “Is it because the Commissioner is not our son?”

The Emir’s comments came after several online posts and attacks believed to have been made to cause confusion and division in the community. He advised everyone, especially the youths, to focus on unity, truth, and peace.

*Defamation: Court Adjourns Case Involving Nupeko TV-Lafiagi Publisher to October 21*

• Ruling on bail application adjourned till tomorrow

The defamation case involving Tauheed Mohammed, CEO and Publisher of Nupeko TV-Lafiagi, came up for hearing at the court today but was adjourned after preliminary proceedings.

During the sitting, the bail application filed on behalf of the defendant was argued and heard. However, the complainant’s counsel raised an objection, pointing out a fatal error in the bail application filed by the defense. The presiding magistrate subsequently adjourned ruling on the bail application to tomorrow, Tuesday, 21st October 2025.

Recall that the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Nupeko TV was on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, remanded at the Oke-Kura Correctional Facility till 20th October 2025, following a criminal case filed against him by the Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources over allegedly defamatory content published on the media platform he operates as Nupeko TV-Lafiagi. The case, which was adjourned to today, has continued to generate public interest across Kwara State.

The court is expected to deliver its ruling on the bail application tomorrow, 21st October 2025.

*PRESS STATEMENT*

*KPMO Cautions Nupeko TV Lafiagi Against Media Blackmail, Urges Respect for Ongoing Legal Process*

The attention of the Kwara Progressive Media Organization (KPMO) has been drawn to a series of unguarded and defamatory publications by Nupeko TV Lafiagi, a local online media outfit, concerning the ongoing legal dispute between the platform and the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade.

While we acknowledge the right of every citizen and organization to seek redress within the ambit of the law, we find it disturbing that Nupeko TV Lafiagi has chosen to engage in *media blackmail and public smear campaigns*, rather than allowing the court to adjudicate the matter they themselves instituted.

It is on record that the Honourable Commissioner has approached the appropriate legal channels to seek justice over the false and malicious allegations of *diversion of public funds* leveled against his person. Hence, it is both improper and contemptuous for the defendants in the said matter to continue using social media to incite the public, distort facts, and malign the image of a serving public officer while the case is sub judice.

If Nupeko TV Lafiagi indeed possesses any credible evidence to substantiate its claims, the right and responsible approach is to present such evidence before the competent court of law—not to engage in reckless propaganda aimed at misleading the public and discrediting the ongoing judicial process.

The Kwara Progressive Media Organization (KPMO), as a body committed to truth, accountability, and ethical journalism, therefore *urges Nupeko TV Lafiagi to desist forthwith from its campaign of calumny* and allow the court to perform its constitutional duty without undue interference.

We also wish to remind media practitioners across Kwara State that freedom of expression does not translate to freedom to defame or libel others. The law remains clear and unforgiving in matters relating to false publication and character assassination.

KPMO stands firmly with Hon. Usman Yunusa Lade, a young and dedicated public servant who has demonstrated transparency, accountability, and excellence in his service to the people of Kwara State. We trust that justice will take its full course in this matter.

Signed,
Kwara Progressive Media Organization (KPMO)
