Okay peeps. I don’t care who you plan to vote for on November 5th or what your preferred political party is, but please do your due diligence and fact check with a reliable resource before you go copying and pasting other people’s post. This has been going around Facebook and it is not completely accurate. The truth of the matter is that there is currently a pilot program in New York City which provides prepaid debit cards to migrants, but, it is much less than $3,500 and these debit cards are for purchase of food and baby supplies only. Additionally, there are no widespread reports of free cell phones or housing being provided under this program. My facts are referenced from AP News and USA Today. Furthermore, according to FEMA website, it says that the $750 dollars is just one of many nominal funds for which victims of Hurricane Helene may be eligible. The $750 is the "Serious Needs Assistance" program and it will be approved shortly after eligible victims apply. It is an upfront, flexible payment to help cover essential items like food, water, baby formula, breastfeeding supplies, medication and other emergency supplies. There are other forms of assistance for which victims may qualify. The Serious Needs Assistance is an initial payment victims may receive while FEMA assesses their eligibility for additional funds. As the victims application continues to be reviewed, they may still receive additional forms of assistance for other needs such as support for temporary housing, personal property and home repair costs. Victims who have questions about their disaster assistance application and what they qualify for call 1-800-621-3362 to speak with a FEMA representative in your language. So there is much more assistance to come. It doesn't matter who our Commander in Chief is, this process will not be any quicker nor will they get any more assistance than what is allotted. I truly feel sorry for those affected by Helene, and my thoughts and prayers are with them, but this is the truth of the matter. As a citizen of the United States of America, I expect my fellow citizens to do their homework and research the facts of these political topics.
