This place was magical! I know I will be coming back here. We ventured once again right off of the Eastern Sierra highway, US 395 to explore another hotspring. The water was clear, and perfect at just around 99 - 100º with the most beautiful view of the Sierra Nevada. Added bonus, this place is located on BLM land, and with dispersed camping allowed. Although we did not camp, I forsee this being a future camping spot. Loved this place so much.

This quite possibly could be the answer to the Alabama Hills situation! Volcanic Tableland just outside of Bishop is a great place for BLM dispersed / FREE camping and sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada! Sound familiar? Yes! Just like the Alabama Hills, only there aren't a bunch of tent sign with crosses through them. This place is wide open with loads of spots! I think it might be a new favorite! Join me and see!

Of all the places in the world to have your first kayaking experience, I can’t think of a better place than Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe under perfect conditions. I have been wanting to forage for morel mushrooms for well over 20 years. Finally I am in the right place at the right time! They have a very limited window for picking, the temperatures and environment have to be just right! Not to mention, you MUST be ABSOLUTELY certain that you are indeed harvesting a TRUE MOREL once you find some! Well all of these checkboxes came together while I was up visiting South Lake Tahoe and I am so thrilled to share my FIRST EVER morel foraging experience with you!

It’s hard to say one spot in Lake Tahoe is above all others, but Emerald Bay would certainly be at the top of such a controversial list. Now it is owned by the state of California, but at one time this magnificent inlet was home to one of Lake Tahoe’s early millionaires, Lora Knight. Here she built the impressive stone mansion, Vikingsholm as her summer retreat. Today I journey on Ca 89 to take in the snow covered views of Emerald Bay and the surrounding landscape of this magical Lake Tahoe location. Join me and let me tell you little tidbits of its history and geology.

Getting into South Lake Tahoe, or anywhere is Lake Tahoe, you have a number of choices all around the lake. But back, WAY BACK in the day - we're talking late 1800's - the early 1900's the only way to get into SOUTH Lake Tahoe by land was over Echo Summit using what was then Osgood Grade and now known as Old Meyers Grade. Wonderfully, this road still exists, and is open to the public as a walking trail. Join me as I tell you about it current status and interesting history!

It's always amazing to me to see things growing in the desert, but yes they do! Here in the Vegas Valley, we have a special place called Gilcrease Orchard. A place for the community to come and pick their own vegetables from a functioning farm.
