37th Kuki Chavang K*t 2025 Celebrated with traditional fervour at Songpijang

The 37th Kuki Chavang K*t 2025’ is being celebrated with traditional fervour today, the 1st November 2025 by the Kuki community in Dima Hasao along with all the inhabitted places of the Kuki tribes in India and abroad.
It is to be noted that the ‘Kuki Chavang K*t’ is celebrated on 1st November every year. The day is recognized as local Holiday in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong and restricted Holiday in entire Assam State.
The Day is sometimes celebrated centrally in a given place by all the villagers. In other times, the celebration is organized in village level in all the Kuki inhabited villages.
The celebration is organized as per direction of the Kuki Inpi Assam (KIA), the Kuki Apex Body of Assam.
This year, Karbi Anglong celebrated in district level at Manja, while in other districts including Dima Hasao, the K*t is celebrated in every village.
The term ‘Chavang’ in Kuki means ‘Autumn’ and ‘K*t’ means ‘festival’. So, ‘Chavang K*t’ means ‘Autumn Festival’, which is celebrated after harvesting. This, ‘Chavang K*t’ is a post-harvest festival of the Kuki tribe.
The programme at Songpijang, near Haflong was graced as Chief Guest by Assam Cabinet Minister Nandita Gorlosa, who is also the local MLA of Haflong, Dima Hasao district.
The Hall programme started at 11.00 am with opening pray by T. S. Changsan and felicitation to the Chief Guest. Then the Chief Guest hoisted the K*t Flag, followed by Kuki traditional dance.
A welcome address by President of Kuki Inpi Assam Upa Henkam Haolai was followed by submission of memorandum by SYC President and Secretaty
During the programme, cultural troupes from all the colonies of the village performance of various Kuki traditional dancesby . Such as 1. '*Sel pang Lam*' by High School veng, 2. *Leilen Lam* by Molnom veng, 3. *Jangcha Lam* by Kholui Veng, 4. *Khulkon Lam* by Bethel veng, 5. *Molkang Lam* by Joujam veng, 6. *Sagolphei Khai * by Lower Songpijang, 7. *Lom Lam* by PHE veng.
Another entertainment was two presented two melodious modern songs presented by the invited Singer Lhainunnom Thangew.
Speaking on the K*t Theme, Dr. Siehjalam Doungel as usual reminded the gathering about the past village life of the Kuki forefathers, and the youth, explained the meaning of the Chavang K*t and how they celebrated the K*t. He urged the gathering and all living in the village including service holder, students and businessmen ofthe villager as well as from other villages to be a good villagers and good citizen of the country and the region they are living. He said the followers of Jesus Christ must live a good exemplary life.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Nandita Gorlosa, lauded the villagers for successfully organising the festival and expressed gratitude for giving her oportinity to grace the occasion. She praised the Kuki community as the most educated in Dima Hasao district, citing IAS, IFS, ACS and other high ranking officials.
As Youth and Sports Minister of Assam, she talked about the opportunities in Games and Sports, its rewards as well as job opportunities. She encouraged the youth to the chance and also appeals to the parents for helping their children in the Games and Sports for bright bright future.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the Assistant Secretary of the Village Upa Sehlak Lenthang.
