Launch of 3rd Edition of Orunodoi 3.0 in Dima Hasao District

The 3rd Edition of Orunodoi 3.0, Assam’s flagship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, was ceremoniously launched today across multiple locations in Dima Hasao through a series of virtual events.
The programme at Kalibari, Lower Haflong was graced by Minister of Assam, Nandita Gorlosa. She was joined by District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey, ACS, along with the Additional District Commissioner Sangeeta Devi ACS and others.
A live stream of the state-level launch of Orunodoi 3.0 was played during the event, enabling attendees to witness the statewide rollout of the transformative scheme. In her address, Minister Gorlosa commended the District Administration for their dedicated efforts in implementing the Orunodoi scheme and acknowledged the pivotal role played by all stakeholders. She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Finance Department for their continued support in empowering the people of Assam.
Simultaneously, Chief Executive Member (C.E.M.) Debolal Gorlosa launched the programme virtually from Sampardisa Community Hall, in the presence of Additional District Commissioner A.K.Illyias Ahmed ACS, Asst. Commissioner Raghuraj Vaidhya, local community leaders, Constituency Development Committee (CDC) Chairman Rongmanon Johori, and other dignitaries. C.E.M. Gorlosa emphasized the importance of maintaining proper documentation to avail benefits under government schemes. He reiterated the commitment of the Autonomous Council to provide various forms of financial assistance to the residents of Dima Hasao.
As part of the current phase, a total of 26,790 beneficiaries has been identified in the district, of which 26,665 beneficiaries are approved for disbursement under Orunodoi 3.0.
Launched by the Government of Assam in October 2020, the Orunodoi scheme aims to uplift economically vulnerable households, with a special focus on women-led families. Through this DBT initiative, eligible beneficiaries receive monthly financial assistance of ₹1,250 directly into their bank accounts, ensuring dignity, transparency, and timely support.

NFR Installs Automatic Ticket Vending and Water Vending Machines at Guwahati Railway Station

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken another step towards improving passenger convenience by installing Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at Guwahati Railway Station. The facility was inaugurated on 03rd October, 2025 by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway. As part of a wider plan to modernize ticketing services, more than 100 nos. of ATVMs are being provided across major railway stations of NFR to offer passengers a faster and more convenient ticketing experience.

The ATVM is designed to provide passengers with a quick, user-friendly and modern method of purchasing unreserved train tickets. With this machine, passengers will no longer need to stand in long queues at ticket counters. Instead, they can easily get their tickets by making digital payments directly at the machine. This helps in saving valuable time and ensures smoother crowd management at railway stations in the region. It can issue unreserved tickets, platform tickets and even season tickets, making it a multipurpose facility for daily commuters as well as occasional travellers. One of the major advantages of the ATVM is its ability to promote cashless transactions and digital India initiatives.

Alongside the ATVM, NFR has installed 36 Water Vending Machines (WVMs) at 13 stations, providing clean, safe and affordable drinking water round the clock. By encouraging passengers to refill their own containers, the initiative promotes eco-friendliness, reduces reliance on bottled water and ensures hygiene and convenience. With pure water available at economical prices, the WVMs truly embody the message of “Har Ghoont Mein Swachhta”, ensuring safe water for healthy travel. Passengers can obtain half litre of water from the WVMs at Rs. 3 for a refill and Rs. 5 if using a container. A water quality testing facility is also available for passengers who wish to test the water, ensuring safe and hygienic drinking water during their journey.

Speaking on the occasion, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava said that the introduction of the ATVMs and WVMs at Guwahati station will go a long way in improving travel comfort for passengers. He also added that Northeast Frontier Railway is committed to bringing more such passenger-friendly facilities across its network in the coming days.

Apart from this Guwahati station is also developing sleeping pods for the convenience of the passengers and it is expected to be completed by December this year.

With the installation of the ATVM and WVMs, N. F. Railway has taken a significant step towards modernization and enhanced passenger services. These facilities are expected to be widely welcomed by travellers, especially during rush hours, by making ticketing faster and easier and providing clean, safe drinking water at affordable rates. The initiatives aim to promote digitalization, improve operational efficiency and enhance overall passenger satisfaction, making railway services more accessible, convenient and passenger-friendly while supporting eco-friendly practices.

First Batch of Automobiles Reached Kashmir Valley by Rail

Indian Railways has achieved another important milestone as the Kashmir Valley received its first-ever rake of automobiles, marking a significant step towards improving connectivity and boosting economic opportunities in the region. On 03 October 2025, the train carrying over 100 vehicles arrived at the Anantnag Goods Terminal in the Valley. The rake had originated from Manesar in Haryana and crossed the iconic Chenab Arch Bridge – the highest railway bridge in the world – before reaching its destination.

This achievement is the direct outcome of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year. The project has finally connected the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country by rail, ending decades of isolation and making it part of the national railway grid in the true sense.

With USBRL in place, the Vande Bharat Express reached the Valley for the first time, giving people a modern and faster travel experience. Soon after, on 15th September 2025, Indian Railways operationalised dedicated parcel train services for apple growers in the Valley. A daily time-tabled service was launched between Badgam and Delhi, ensuring that apples from Kashmir reached the wholesale markets of the capital at the most favourable trading hours. This has strengthened the income of farmers, reduced dependence on road transport, and lowered logistics costs.

Building on this success, the arrival of the first automobile rake at Anantnag on 03 October 2025 represents a major step forward. For the first time, finished vehicles have been transported by rail into the Valley, opening new avenues for trade, retail, and allied services. This will not only benefit consumers but also create jobs in logistics, distribution, and automobile-related businesses.

From completion of the USBRL, to the launch of apple parcel trains, and now the delivery of the first automobile rake to Anantnag, Indian Railways has opened a new chapter in the story of the Kashmir Valley. Each of these steps is strengthening the economy, creating jobs, and improving lives.
