Broward County will remain under a flood watch until Thursday, October 10, 2024. While minimal effects are expected in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea and surrounding areas, please exercise common sense and caution over the next few days.

The ground is already saturated which may cause localized flooding in various areas throughout the County. Be patient, the storm drains will clear.

If you can, keep storm drains near your property clear of debris.

Turn Around Don't Drown; Don't walk or drive through flooded streets.

Please also note that it is illegal to fill sandbags with sand from the beach.

Here's my poor man's Peloton. It's my road bike on a stationary in my office. I have a sSmall battery powered so I can feel that cool breeze in my face when I ride. Plus a monitor to watch videos of great rides through the mountains, , , , or wherever.

No needed! And no need to watch over my shoulder for cars! Oh ... and I can ride, rain or shine!

Where there's a will, there's a way. Make it a great day! I am!

Restaurant owners, are you struggling? Do you sell gift cards? If not, here's why you should consider selling them:

Why Restaurants Should Embrace Gift Cards:

Increased Revenue: Gift cards bring in immediate cash flow, even before meals are served. They also often lead to higher spending and tipping, as customers tend to view gift cards as "free money."

New Customer Acquisition: Recipients may be first-time visitors, expanding the restaurant's customer base. Gift cards are typically purchased by your loyal fans ... and given to people that might also like your restaurant.

Brand Awareness: Gift cards serve as mini-advertisements, keeping the restaurant's name top-of-mind. When they're trying to decide where to go .... you'll be on top of the list!

Valuable Data: Gift card sales provide insights into customer behavior and preferences.

Year-Round Appeal: While popular during holidays, gift cards are suitable for various occasions throughout the year. Birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and other special occasions are great times for your customers to purchase gift cards.

Potential Uplift: Customers typically will spend more than the card's value, boosting your sales.

Improved Cash Flow: Selling gift cards can help during slower periods or for funding improvements.

By offering gift cards, restaurants can boost revenue, attract new diners, and enhance their marketing efforts.

In today's competitive dining landscape, gift cards are a simple yet effective tool for growth and building market share!

Nearly four years after the Mai-Kai Restaurant and Polynesian Show closed, this iconic landmark is finally expected to reopen this summer, with an amazing theme-park like atmosphere.

The $15 million Mai-Kai face-lift is on target to soft-open this September, with a grand-opening set for sometime in October, developer Bill Fuller told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for Fort Lauderdale through Friday evening. The Governor has declared a State of Emergency.

The City received up to 9 inches of rain in some areas yesterday in addition to the 3 inches that fell Tuesday. As of this morning, much of the water has receded, and the stormwater system is operating as it should. However, the groundwater capacity has reduced greatly, and any additional rainfall may accumulate faster than yesterday.

Today’s forecast predicts an additional 2 to 10 inches of rain between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., which could create dangerous conditions very quickly.

Stay off the roadways today unless absolutely necessary. Vehicles on the roadways during flooding conditions are dangerous for drivers and hamper the efforts of first responders. Approximately 60 vehicles were towed from the roadways yesterday.

Never drive through high water. Not only is it dangerous for the driver, but it can also push water from the roadways into nearby homes or businesses.

Closures and Cancellations

City administrative offices will remain closed today, Thursday, June 13.

The Homeless Advisory Committee and Nuisance Abatement Board meetings that were scheduled for today have been canceled.

Resource Deployment

City resources have been deployed to the following hard-hit areas. Resources, including pump trucks and/or temporary pumps, are deployed to areas where they will be most effective. During heavy rain events, pump trucks or temporary pumps may not be effective as discharge points exceed capacity.

• River Oaks
• Edgewood
• Durrs & Dorsey Riverbend
• Isles
• Victoria Park
• Shady Banks
• Chula Vista
• Melrose Manors
• Riverland Civic
• Middle River Terrace
• Sunrise Intracoastal

Additional Resources

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has deployed additional resources to assist, including high-water buggies, airboats, and a shallow-water boat.
