ADVISORY ON SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS AND ROAD INCIDENTS IN JOHANNESBURG
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) updates its urgent appeal to all residents and road users to exercise extreme caution due to the continuing severe adverse weather conditions.
The following incidents and obstructions have been reported to and attended by JMPD officers across the city. Motorists are advised to avoid these areas and seek alternative routes.
Current Reported Hazards (Avoid These Areas)
Fallen Trees Obstructing Roadways:
* Newlands: Main Road and Garden Road
* Bergbron: Gordon Road
* Yeoville: Joe Slovo Drive
* Langlaagte: Albertina Sisulu Road
* Kensington: Queens Street
* Joburg CBD: Corner of Albertina Sisulu and Von Weilligh Street
* Jabulani: Koma Road
* Phiri: Manotshe Street
* Midrand: Old Pretoria Road
* Houghton Estate: 5th Avenue
* Randespark, Midrand: Road Crescent
* Nasrec: Nasrec Road
Serious Flooding / Water Overflow:
* N12 East Freeway: Overflow reported in the Protea Industrial Park area.
Accident Alert: Serious and Fatal Incidents:
We confirm JMPD officers have attended to the following major incidents:
* 1 Serious accident in Sandton.
* 1 Serious accident in Soweto.
* 1 Fatal accident on Malibongwe Drive.
These reports underscore the dire need for heightened road safety. We repeat our critical advice:
* DO NOT Cross Flooded Roads: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Water can hide deep holes and powerful currents.
* Reduce Speed: Wet roads and debris require significantly more stopping distance.
* Patience is Mandatory: Anticipate heavy delays and road closures. Do not take unnecessary risks.
