Hollywood legend Denzel Washington has spent decades at the top of his craft, with 10 Academy Award nominations and two wins Best Supporting Actor for Glory (1990) and Best Actor for Training Day (2002). Yet, despite his decorated career, he says he’s “not that interested in Oscars.”
In a recent interview with Jake’s Takes, Washington explained that awards have never been his true motivation.
“I really don’t care about that kind of stuff,” he said. “I’ve been at this a long time, and there are times when I won and shouldn’t have won, and … didn’t win and should’ve won.”
For him, recognition from Hollywood pales in comparison to a higher purpose. “Man gives the award. God gives the reward. On my last day, Oscars won’t do me any good,” he reflected — a statement that speaks to his deep faith and focus on legacy beyond the spotlight.
Washington’s words are a reminder that while trophies may gather dust, character, impact, and purpose endure far longer than any accolade.
