What do you immediately think of when you hear “What channels did you watch as a kid?”

Is it Disney? Nickelodeon?? Cartoon Network even?? Or maybe you had a different taste, and you watched
HBO family growing up!!

Imagine it’s 6am on a Weekday morning, and you left your tv on HBO family over night. This is what you would see!!!

Like a flower, dancing around the tv to music, as shows like “Ispy” and “George and Martha” etc, play!!
If HBO was your channel growing up, all these things sound all too familiar!

Jam was a morning kids block that came on HBO family during the week!! This kids block started airing August 26, 2001, and gained popularity, unlike it’s afternoon counterpart with the name of “Magnet” that started the same day!!

While Magnet ended January 2005, HBO Family Jam persisted, until January 17, 2016.

Jam ended one day after Sesame Street moved from many years on PBS kids, to HBO family!!!

It was a very sad day for HBO kids when Jam died, as it was an important contribution to many of our childhoods

RIP HBO Family Jam, 2001-2016 you are surely missed by many!!!💗💜🌸

If you were on Facebook In it’s peak years ranging from 2008-2011, I have one question to ask!!

Do you remember everyone and their moms playing a game called “Farmville”?

I bet the answer is “Yes!”

Farmville was a game launched in June, 2009 by a company named “Zynga”, it was a place where you could plant “crops” and talk to friends, and it gained SO MUCH popularity SO quickly!!

Despite the game ending on December 31st, 2020, more people seem to remember this game, rather than acknowledge it’s preceding counterpart game with the name of “Yoville”

Yep, Yoville.

Yoville was a game created May 8, 2008 by the same company as FarmVille, Zynga!!!

And even though fewer people seem to remember it, compared to Farmville, it has had a surprisingly longer run!!!

After several weeks of Yoville fans suffering in anticipation due to Zynga bidding it’s game in attempt to keep it alive!!
May 11, 2014, A company with the name of Big Viking Games, takes Zynga up on their offer, and saves the day for Yoville fans, with only one cache.

The name “Yoville” Changes into the game we know today as “YoWorld” thankfully, regardless of the name change, as of today, September 10, 2022 Yoworld is still up and active with up to 2k users a day!!!

Hey, it may not be as popular as FarmVille was, but atleast it’s still alive and well!!!

If I ask you what you remember doing in the days leading right up to Facebook’s claim to fame, what would you say???

Maybe you would say, you spent more time on YouTube, or maybe that you spent less time on the internet, and hung out at school dances!!!!

Although, it is more likely that you would answer by saying, you had a MySpace instead!!

Myspace was a social networking site, most popular from years 2005-2008, where you could make statuses, and share music with your friends!!!

Unlike the modern Facebook, Myspace was more about creative expression and less about Monetary value!!!

You could express your creativity on MySpace by styling your page with HTML and CSS, as well as putting music on your profile!!! Doesn’t this all sound much cooler than Facebook??

In 2005, Tom the founder of MySpace sold it to News Corp for $580 million dollars! Talk about a lot of money!!

And In 2009, Tom decided he couldn’t compete with Facebook any longer,and left the company, and in his retirement took up traveling!!!

Sadly, in the modern age everything has become about how much money a person can make, and not so much about creative freedom anymore!!

Now this could lead one to ask, was there anyone out there like Tom who is willing to give us this creative freedom on a platform??? And the short, but awesome answer is. Yes!!!

On November, 26 2020 a site with the name of “Spacehey” was launched, sounds kind of familiar, doesn’t it??

An, a 19 year old student from Germany founded this project with his sister!!

Spacehey has the exact same layout as MySpace, and although many of the things on the site are in “Beta mode!” You can assure yourself this was an amazing day in internet reboot history!!!

Thousands of people join Spacehey everyday, and although it does not hold the same fame as Myspace once did in the early 2000’s, We owe a special hats off to An for being the new Tom, and trying to help us relive our creative youth!!

Thank you An!! And, finally there was a happy ending to a story!! 🙂

Before there was “virtual reality” the online’s version of virtual gaming was a little bit different.. You didn’t need an oculus headset or even a pair of headphones and a microphone. All you needed was a computer, a connection to the internet, and a HUGE imagination!!!

ourWorld was a game that’s development began in January 2007 and had its first Beta launch in April of 2008!! Developed by a company known as “FlowPlay”, This game was a hit for kids, as it received over 600,000 registrations!!! That is a lot if you ask me!!

Although there were many accounts on this game, it was still a little less popular then games like “Fantage” or “Club Penguin” or other virtual games, that were big at the time.

Unlike, these games though, Ourworld gave a little bit of flavor to the online gaming community, allowing it’s players to express their individuality and creativity in ways that it’s other online counterparts did not!!

As you can imagine for many children this was a fun, special experience, including for myself at one point!!

Ourworld, just like many other games at the time, heavily relied on Adobe Flash for its mini games, in order to help make it a huge success. And Just like many other games, as soon as Adobe killed Flash,
Ourworld soon became impossible to maintain…

After trying to make a downloadable version that wouldn’t rely on Flash anymore, it had so many bugs and glitches, that it would soon prove to fail its members judgements on the game…

Unfortunately, October 24, 2021, the Amazing “Ourworld” finally gave up on trying to go on, and shut down, leaving many of the members including myself feeling hopeless about our childhood.

Ourworld ranked as one of the longest virtual games to continue and for this, many of the OW fans were proud for being apart of it!!

I wanna start this page off by saying briefly this… 12 years ago, where did you see yourselves?? Regardless on how you answered that, I highly doubt it was anywhere close to where you are today!!!

We must understand that the world we live in is ever changing, and one day all of the things we grew to know and love, will be but only a MEMORY!!

We need to create a space where our grandchildren in the future will be able to look back on this page, and know what the 2000’s was about… it’s a matter of time until Blu-rays and VHS tapes are a long lost memory, so put on your bootstraps and let’s get information out there!!!
