DSWD extends aid to 537 families in Mandaue, calls for flood prevention.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 has extended relief assistance to 537 affected families in Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City following flooding in the area.

While relief efforts continue, the DSWD also reminded the public that true recovery goes beyond immediate response.

DSWD 7 emphasized the importance of community participation in disaster prevention especially keeping our surroundings clean to avoid clogged waterways.

“Floods may bring challenges, but together we can rise above them. A clean community is a safe community,” Tonyson Luther Lee , DSWD 7 ARD, urging residents to take part in protecting the environment as a safeguard for future generations.

Explosion Rocks Bon Chon Restaurant in Tagbilaran; No Casualties Reported

TAGBILARAN CITY – An early morning explosion hit the soon-to-open Bon Chon restaurant near Shakey’s and Kenny Rogers in Dampas at around 2:15 a.m. Friday, August 15, causing a total blackout from Dampas to Capitol Valley.

The power outage lasted for nearly an hour, with electricity restored at 3:10 a.m., according to local reports.

Debris and shattered glass were scattered across the area, prompting immediate clearing operations. Authorities have confirmed there were no casualties in the incident, as the establishment was closed at the time of the explosion.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the blast, which marks the third fire-related incident in the city in recent months.

Residents and business owners are advised to regularly check electrical connections, ensure proper fire safety compliance, and verify that neighboring establishments have the necessary business permits.

Officials also urged the public to avoid the affected area until clearing works are completed.

SEVERE TROPICAL STORM “PODUL” HAS ENTERED THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY AND WAS NAMED “GORIO”.

Location of Center (4:00 AM):
The center of Severe Tropical Storm GORIO was estimated based on all available data at 1,305 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (21.1°N, 134.4°E).

Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 135 km/h, and central pressure of 985 hPa

Present Movement:
Westward at 25 km/h

Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to storm-force winds extend outwards up to 280 km from the center

A tropical cyclone bulletin has been issued for this tropical cyclone.

In line with the thrust of NBI Director JUDGE JAIME B. SANTIAGO (Ret.) to ensure not only the thorough investigation of cases but also their speedy resolution, the NBI- International Airport Investigation Division (IAID) arrested MANUELITO MELIA CAMACHO aka MONCHING, accused in the murder of Cebu lawyer JOEY LUIS WEE in 2020. The investigation that led to the filing of this case and issuance of a warrant of arrest was conducted by the NBI Cebu District Office (CEBDO).

Per report, the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division -Airport Police (PIID) arrested one JAY-R REYES y SANTOS for theft, unjust vexation and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority. These charges are pending with the MTC Branch 166-Pasay City.

During Jay-R’s detention, a fight broke out between him and his partner, where it was eventually revealed that JAY-R’s real name is MANUELITO MELIA CAMACHO also known as MONCHING. The Chief of the PIID requested a record check on the said name.

Upon record check, it was found that MONCHING has a warrant of Arrest for Murder, issued by the RTC Branch 10, Cebu City. This information was communicated with the Agent-in-Charge of the Cebu District Office (CEBDO), who confirmed to the PIID the positive identification of JAY-R REYES also known as MANUELITO MELIA CAMACHO.

Accordingly, the IAID served the Warrant of Arrest on CAMACHO at the office of the Airport Police, Pasay City. During his arrest, CAMACHO admitted that he was the same person charged in the above-named case.

It can be recalled that on November 23,2020, two gunmen shot lawyer Joey Luis Wee, 51, in broad daylight as he walked from his car up to the stairs of his office in Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City, at around 1:30 pm. This case was investigated by the Cebu District Office.

Director Santiago commended the agents of the NBI-IAID for the successful implementation of the warrant. He also lauded the agents of NBI-CEBDO and the elements of the PIID for their contribution in the said arrest. The Director emphasized the importance of coordination between NBI offices and other law enforcement agencies.
