HELLO FROM NEPAL! Here's me enjoying a lovely cup of solar-powered tea. I've had no booze since we started our trek to Everest Base Camp ten days ago, as alcohol and altitude don't mix. I'd be lying if I said I feel great - as my body adjusts to the thinner air, I've been waking up with dry mouth and some banging headaches. So just like a hangover really... I can't imagine how awful I'd feel if I was also drinking! BUT - this break from the booze has been a good reminder that I don't need it to have a good time, even on holiday. Also, I've enjoyed getting to know the other people on our trek, and becoming friends, without the use of alcohol to build bonds. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I did that as an adult - isn't that a bit weird? Anyway, it's all very interesting and enlightening, like so many things about this trip. Tomorrow we reach Base Camp and do our record breaking comedy show, live on Twitch - full details and donation link for over on . Then we will be heading down, back to Kathmandu. And yes, as our bodies will be fully acclimatised, I will pop in to the Irish bar in Namche Bazaar for a beer. Just the one though! OK maybe two. Cheers!

I went to a party in a pub tonight and did not have any booze! I know right, where's my medal. But seriously. I just have so much on this week, with our big Catford shows on Thursday and Friday and a bunch of other stuff. I remembered something Stephanie said on the podcast - if you have a lot on, it's much easier to deal with if you take booze out of the picture. Goddammit she's always right. Anyway I still got fried chicken on the way home, because you don't need to forget about ALL the traditions just cos you're laying off the lager, right? Cheers!

Happy Monday! 9pm and I'm already tucked up in bed with my cuddly toy monkey, like an actual child. I used to reward myself for getting through a long tough day with a few glasses of wine, but I've learned that putting myself to bed early can feel like a treat too. Different, yes. Boring, maybe. Yesterday we did a podcast with that Adrian Chiles. I've just read his book, The Good Drinker: How I Learned to Love Drinking Less. There are loads of bits in it, like this one, that really resonated with me. I LOVE that first drink, but do I always need the second? Do I ever need the sixth? Anyway, I'd highly recommend the book if you're looking for something to read about moderation that has practical advice and sciencey bits, but also funny stories and real honesty. How was last week for you? I did four dry days, so one more than my target for January (3 dry days per week, max 3 drinks per session.) But yesterday I had some old friends round for Sunday lunch, and full disclosure, I drank more than I planned to. Hence the black mark on my calendar. But I'm trying not to be too hard on myself. I didn't go nuts - no shots or daft cocktails, just lovely wine with food - and I stopped drinking when my friends left, instead of carrying on into the night like I would in the old days. To be honest I had a great time, and I don't regret the extra drinks, but I do feel a bit rubbish this morning, and it's a good reminder that hangovers are s**t. I'm also trying to remember what Stephanie has told me about allowing yourself to start again when you slip up. More wise words from her on episode 2 of the SYSO podcast, out tomorrow - subscribe now! PS The app I use to track my drinking is Try Dry but there are lots of good ones out there innit.

MEET STEPHANIE CHIVERS! I was so glad when she agreed to co-host the podcast with me, not least because I know f**k all about sorting s**t out, whereas she is very wise. Anyway if you're not familiar with her work, here's a little intro from the woman herself.

"Hi, my name is Stephanie and I teach, coach and support people who want to change their relationship with alcohol. That can mean reduce, take a break, or stop. I am passionate about sharing with what works with you, so you can live a happy healthy life. And no, I am not the fun police.

I have been doing this work for 16 years now. I have done pretty much every job there is to do in behaviour change and treatment services. Practitioner, outreach worker, young person's worker, family worker, group worker, team leader, and I have managed three different drug and alcohol services.

Now I run a little community interest company supporting women to change their relationship with alcohol. I also have my own personal experience to share and have successfully changed my own relationship.

MOIST JANUARY UPDATE! How was your weekend? Yes, I did have a drink on Friday night. And Saturday night. And some wine with Sunday lunch. But I stuck to my target of 3 alcohol free days last week, and max 3 drinks per day. In fact I only had a couple of glasses most days. Today I woke up today feeling much brighter than I have done most Monday mornings, or indeed all of December. So I'm giving myself a pat on the back, and instead of having a beer to celebrate, I'm having a Ginger Lemon Remedy Kombucha and a pink Fondant Fancy. It's about balance, innit? ONE YEAR AGO! This photo was taken after an epic lunch in an amazing restaurant with a slide, an actual SLIDE, down to the biggest wine cellar I've ever seen. I think it was around bottle four that I mentioned to our mate Zoe I was thinking of doing a podcast about how to reduce your drinking. And she said it was a good idea. So just 12 short months later, I've actually done it, with the help of Stephanie , Laura and Isabelle and Cam . The first episode is out tomorrow!
