Ready to Die is the debut studio album by American rapper The Notorious B.I.G., released on September 13, 1994, through Bad Boy Records with distribution by Arista Records. The album peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200, earning widespread critical acclaim and quickly becoming a commercial breakthrough. It produced three hit singles: “Juicy,” “Big Poppa,” and “One More Chance.”

In April 2018, Ready to Die was certified 6× Platinum by the RIAA. Widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop records and one of the greatest albums of all time, it has received enduring recognition across decades.

In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked it 22nd on its updated list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and 1st on its list of the 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time. In 2024, the album was added to the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically, and/or aesthetically significant.”

In the 1950s and 60s, the Army secretly sprayed a mysterious fog over Pruitt-Igoe, a predominantly Black housing project in St. Louis. Residents, including children, remember playing in the thick, foul-smelling smoke, not knowing they were being used as human guinea pigs.
The government has now admitted the fog contained zinc cadmium sulfide, a known carcinogen, as part of a Cold War experiment to see how a biological attack might spread. Decades later, former residents are dying from rare forms of cancer, and they believe the government is still covering up the full extent of the experiment, possibly including radioactive materials. Families now demand answers, compensation, and the truth.
