During 2023, the King and Queen will visit Sweden's 21 counties on the occasion of The King's 50 years on the throne. On 14 June, the King and Queen visited the county of Gotland and the residence city of Visby.
The day began at Gotland's museum in Visby, where the royal couple got to see the exhibition 1361 - the battle for Gotland, which tells Gotland's entire medieval history and describes the people's living conditions.
The King and Queen also visited the Treasury with silver and gold objects from the Viking Age and the Picture Stone Hall with world-unique Gotland picture stones.
The royal couple then walked to Almedalen for a tree-planting ceremony where the King planted a walnut tree.
A commemorative program took place on Almedalen's stage with performances by, among others, the singer Elin Andersson. The King gave a speech.
Then Gotland's museum introduced the anniversary photo exhibition and unveiled the first subject. ๐๏ธ
In the residence, the governor hosted a jubilee lunch. ๐ฝ๏ธ
After lunch, the King and Queen visited Svenskbygรฅrden in Roma, where they were received by representatives of the Association of Svenskbyborna and the museum Svenskbygรฅrden.
The King and Queen were given a viewing of the exhibition The Swedish Villagers - a folk scrap in Sweden's history.
The royal couple also received information about ongoing aid work in Gammalsvenskby due to the war in Ukraine.
The anniversary visit to Gotland County ended with a visit to the National Archives (Landsarkivet Gotland).
