Hip-hop is mourning one of its earliest architects. Afrika Bambaataa, a Bronx-born DJ, producer, and founder of the Universal Zulu Nation, has passed away at the age of 67 following complications from cancer.
Known for shaping the early sound of hip-hop with records like Planet Rock, Bambaataa helped lay the foundation for what would become a global movement rooted in unity, creativity, and expression. His influence helped inspire generations of artists, DJs, and cultural leaders.
At the same time, his legacy has remained complex, as past allegations of s*xual abuse sparked serious conversations within the hip-hop community over the years.
