This December, Team Ether got together to deliver a yearly wrap-up for 2021: an artistically curated patchwork of moments that represent what stirred us the most. A rather difficult year has passed us by, and it’s time to exclaim “Good riddance!” to all the dreadful moments and welcome 2022 with open arms. This edition includes the magazine’s first lyric poetry, under the title: ‘Folds’, a wholesome personal account titled ‘Growing Pains’, and ‘Case for Consciousness’, a perspicuous discussion on what consciousness entails. Make sure to read ‘Temperature Rising, Hopes Falling- What 2021 Means for Climate Change’ and ‘The benefits of writing when you don’t feel like it’.

We wish you a happy new year and thank you for your support.

In celebration of the first anniversary of Ether, this October marks the release of our very special anniversary edition. A potluck of genres captures the essence of our team through a collection of original pieces: starting with ‘As Ether turns one- things that I learnt’, followed by a beautiful outlook presented in ‘Kindness, put into context. ‘Oh dear Cousin’ is a fascinating write-up about Orangutans, our closest relatives. Be sure to check out ‘dawn of the dusk’, a scintillating free-verse, 'proverbials of lost love', ‘I Asked the Sunset to be my Girlfriend’, and ‘Saira’, a Malayalam short story. Finally, ‘White Lies’ leaves us with a gentle philosophical pondering in our attempt to answer the question, “Does truth always triumph?”

Ether returns with yet another monthly melange of original pieces. Our first article of the issue throws light on the heart-wrenching situation of Afghan women since the re-emergence of the Taliban rule in Afghanistan. In recognition of World Su***de Prevention Day, which was on the 10th of September, this edition includes a moving article titled ‘Advice for Suicidal People, from a Former Suicidal Person’. Don’t forget to check out ‘Lucid Sleep’ and ‘Neelambari’-a Malayalam short story. A lovely free-verse poem, ‘moonless skies’ followed by an informative discussion on the Indian handloom, eagerly await our supportive readers.

Ether’s August issue arrives as a colourful medley of art, literature and mathematics. This month, we’ve visited the roots of the expression “and the cat’s in the cradle”, followed by a stimulating discussion on practical infinities. Be sure to read the story behind the famous woodblock print, ‘Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife’ by Hokusai, and the book review on ‘The Silent Patient’. Our issue, interspersed with interpretative illustrations, also features two emotive pieces of free-verse poetry, titled ‘pastoral rhapsody’ and ‘temblor’

Pride Month is celebrated in June each year throughout the world to recognize the struggles, achievements and lives of LGBTQIA+ people. This month, Ether teamed up with Manthan to create a special Pride-themed issue. This edition features articles, infographics and art on a variety of issues- the harms of conversion therapy, the fluid nature of sexuality, the impact of the pandemic on q***r people and more.

Pride Month was originally celebrated in 1970 to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots- highlighting the deeply political nature of Pride and the on-going fight for equal rights for the LGBTQIA+ community. Our allyship is vital and should continue, even when June ends.
