So yesterday, I encountered a woman flogging a child ( a young adolescent who should be in her early teenage years) mercilessly so I intervened politely: " ah madam e dun do, flog me instead"... it was at that point she said to the girl, "and when your mum comes back, I will tell her to deal with you". At that point I was astonished 😕. "Madam so no be you pikin and you dey flog her like this?" Her response was explosive 😳 she obviously assaulted me. First she held my shirt and called me names... and at the end of it all, she said my Days are numbered - how wicked some humans can be 😞 - if she was God she would take my life immediately 🤣 but man is not God and God can never be a man and it is in this fact I take solace.
In conclusion: I don't know the relationship between her and the girl's parents but I deduced two things: Some adults have become toxic and abusive probably from life's challenges especially in this present day Nigeria where the average citizen is struggling.
Secondly Nigeria has to update it's laws on Child Abuse and take it seriously. Discipline is important but there should be a limit to punishing children , don't turn it to torture or a means to lash out your frustrations. I know say if na for America that woman go dey rest for cell now dey await trial.
