IN 1938... THEY ARRIVED.

The teaser trailer for our upcoming period scifi short film, THE BATTLE OF GROVERS MILL, has just touched down.

Based on "The War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells and the infamous radio play by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre on the Air, the film follows an an aspiring journalist who is faced with a larger than life threat after news of a strange crash-site in his home town comes over the radio.

Our new short film, "The Door Dinger", will be screening at Movie Madness all three days! Come check it out!

The results of the very first DIRECT TO VIDEO FILM FESTIVAL are coming to the Movie Madness Miniplex this weekend! 20 filmmaking teams had 48 hours to create a short film based on a given theme (“Something weird”) and prop (a VHS tape provided by Movie Madness). The results are now compiled and ready to be shared with the world!

On Friday you can view a 45-minute block of all the shorts that won DTV awards. On Saturday and Sunday, you can experience all the submissions in one beautiful 2 hour blob. From a doomed love story between obsolete robots, to a clown-filled journey into corporate dystopia, to the harrowing tale of a movie return gone terribly wrong, these 20 films perfect capture the creativity, passion, innovation, and profound weirdness of Portland’s filmmaking community.

Benjamin Rome (he/him) is a frequent collaborator of Ghoul Capone Pictures whose first film credit was an early collaboration with co-founder Nolen Sternkopf, “Hair-Girl”, where he participated as the Director of Photography. After working with Nolen on several other projects including our films “Fire Hill” and “Rotten Shadows”, Benjamin is excited to continue helping film as well as color grade for Ghoul Capone and stretch his creative muscles in the face of new challenges.

Benjamin Rome will graduate in the Spring of 2023 with a dual B.S. of Computer Science and Business Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in upstate NY. He graduated from Sherwood High School in 2019 and was an active member of the Sherwood Percussion Ensemble doing both outdoor marching band shows and indoor winter percussion competitions.

Benjamin works professionally as the Principle Software Developer at Guidance Analytics and hopes to improve the world one line of code at a time. As a hobbyist, Benjamin is currently the Team Principle of Rensselaer Motorsport where he focuses on overall team management and direction while driving very fast race cars.

Up and coming engineer Ben Kroon (he/him) has been working with the founders of Ghoul Capone Pictures on visual effects for their short films ever since they attended high school together. His most recent vfx work can be seen in Fire Hill, where he provided touch-up effects in post-production. But it's not all behind the scenes for Ben! Soon you’ll be able to catch him in front of the camera in our upcoming short, The Battle of Grovers Mill, where he stars as the main character!
