The kids wanted a kitten from our neighbor and I said no. 😬

We just had so much going on at the time, and I wasn't ready to take over caring for the cat after the initial kitten fever wore off for them. 🥴

Of course, I felt terrible for saying no, and within half a day I ended up changing my mind.

Then, since I'm actually a softie for cats, I told them to take TWO kittens so the siblings can keep each other company. 😅

Well, as I initially imagined, we got super busy.

I snoozed the reminder in my calendar multiple times, and ultimately didn't end up getting the girl kitten spayed in time.

We tried to keep her indoors at that time but she is a wild one and an escape artist and would find ways to sneak out (one time she literally ripped a hole in the screen of an open window to go out and see her boyfriend 🤣).

Naturally, she got pregnant as soon as feline-ally possible, and she had SIX more kittens. 🤦

So 5 months after taking in two kittens, we now had EIGHT kittens. 😵‍💫

We tried to give them away, but it was the worst timing ever.

Our county had so many unwanted kittens (🥹) that the animal shelter was literally doing a buy one get one free sale on them. 😆

The good news?

We haven't had to trap a mouse once since they arrived. 🤷

Failure is just a lesson. Keep going! 🧑‍🌾👩‍🌾

Having 7 children can absolutely be overwhelming at times.

Sometimes I imagine how much easier life might be if we only had our first two, who are now (relatively) self-sufficient teenagers.

But the reality is, nothing else in my life has ever been compelling enough to keep me consistently moving in the right direction.

My character, my health, my career, my marriage-- all have continued to improve, and to survive through the toughest of times, because I knew that if I couldn't do it for me, I HAD to do it for them.

And while nothing in my life has been nearly as difficult, nothing has brought me such an overwhelming amount of joy.

Hands down, becoming a father has been the best thing that's ever happened to me.
