It's the rule of ever increasing profit through efficiency. I set seat pitch for Boeing in the '90s and found each airline had a preference that was ever decreasing. We called one jet cattle class, since the pitch would not hold any but the smallest people in our group. It was also referred to as standing room only. Now the only thing left to shrink are the passengers themselves. We always wanted to see a frame based seating chart based on regional stats, but we weren't allowed to make the seats adjustable, or get the get the suggestion out of the aether. Imagine pre-boarding by lining up according to height and weight? A bell curve that lined up with the CG. This was one of Dad's musings really. I let it out of the bag stupidly, but it's Dad's again here.
