Pakistani pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi has sent a warning to his opponents, particularly arch-rivals India, stating that his impressive spell during the Asia Cup is just the beginning, with the Cricket World Cup only a few weeks away.
The left-arm fast bowler made a significant impact against India in their Group A clash last week, taking 4-35, which included the crucial wickets of star batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
While that particular match was unfortunately washed out, the two teams are set to face each other again in Colombo on Sunday during the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup, serving as a warm-up for the upcoming 50-over World Cup next month.
Shaheen expressed his excitement, saying, "Every match against India is special, and people watch this a lot. I used to eagerly await this match as a fan before I played under-16 cricket."
He also emphasized that his recent performance is just the beginning, and there is much more to come from him, stating, "I can't say this has been my best spell so far. This is just the start, and there will be many more, so the best is yet to come."
With his ability to swing the ball both ways, Shaheen leads one of the most formidable pace attacks in the world.
Shaheen's fellow fast bowlers, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, have also been instrumental in Pakistan's performance in the Asia Cup, collectively taking 23 wickets so far.
"We know our roles with the new and old ball," Shaheen explained. "Haris is quicker than us and makes an impact with his pace. Naseem and I try to get early breakthroughs."
He added that effective communication among the fast bowlers has been crucial to their success.
Shaheen, who stands tall at 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 meters), overcame a serious knee injury last year and made a strong comeback in Sri Lanka in July.
He credited his improvement to his match experience, especially the Test matches against Sri Lanka, where he bowled long spells and fielded extensively, dispelling any doubts about his knee injury.
Shaheen has an impressive record of 105 wickets in 27 Test matches.
