The First Sahel Governance Forum has officially opened in The Gambia, convening political leaders, policymakers, civil society representatives, and development partners from across Africa and beyond. The two-day conference, themed “The Future of Governance: Rebuilding Social Cohesion and Public Trust” aims to explore strategies for strengthening citizen trust, deepening political transitions, and improving governance in the Sahel region.
Taking place from July 30 to 31, 2025, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo, the forum was launched by President Adama Barrow.
The forum is initiated under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and co-hosted with the support of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation and International IDEA, aiming to foster regional dialogue among Sahel countries.
The event feature high-profile attendees, including former Heads of State, to engage in discussions on various topics related to peace and stability in the Sahel region.
Hosting the First Sahel Governance Forum underscores The Gambia’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance, peace, security, and stability both within the sub-region and across the African continent.
