My husband has work jeans that he wears around the farm, but his phone always puts a hole in them. I’ve decided that today for the I would preserve his jeans. I know food is an important part of preservation for our future, but mending perfectly good jeans, instead of spending money to buy new ones, is also a form of preservation.
I started this project by picking out the stitches that held the pocket in place (at least part of the way around.) Then I cut a piece off of a very old and worn out pair of jeans to make a patch to put on the inside of the hole. Having the pocket disconnected from the jeans made it possible to then zigzag stitch over and over and over the hole and patch. I then trimmed the patch on the inside and sewed the pocket back on using gold thread to match the existing top stitching.
I think they turned out great! They are sturdier now and should hold up for quite a while longer.
