CO-Founders: jointly - together. While this volume's theme highlighted adventure, both Daena and Abi embarked on their family's own adventures. Through deployments, moves, news, and changes they worked diligently to deliver a volume that not only spoke the words of the military kid community, but embodied the lifestyle they know all to well.

This would not have been able to be done without each other's support. It is indicative of the mindset that develops overtime - where there is weakness there is strength - because this military lifestyle teaches us the ebb and flow of support.

Adventure in the military is wild, unpredictable, and, most importantly, supported by the incredible people we surround ourselves with. With this, we know that from journey to journey and project to project, wonderful magic can be created.

Pre-order today and explore the pages of Volume II of Legacy Kids: The Adventure.

It is with great excitement that we introduce Volume II of Legacy Kids Magazine!

The military lifestyle can be described in so many different words – this volume highlights one that helps military kids move through change with a little more pep in their step: ADVENTURE. While we don’t always associate exhilarating journeys with leaving places and people we love– it most certainly happens. It is within this adventuring that we find little silver linings, ways to maneuver with joy, and unexpected friendships.

This volume offers a military kid's perspective of the adventure’s they've had. Through stories, comics, new languages, and old advice - we can see directly into each little voyage our military families have taken. Activities throughout the publication will immerse readers into going on an adventure with the writer – creating an expedition of their own.

After reading this volume we are hoping military kids will be ready to ride with a bigger passion for pursuit, a tenacity for travel, and an excitement for expeditions. Like a dandelion blowing in the wind, Volume II will inspire a new perspective of leaving and blooming wherever we are planted.

We are thrilled to announce that submissions for Volume II of Legacy Kids are now open!

This edition will be focused on adventure and exploration! We know that military kids have changed their locations around the United States AND around the World. We have seen that movement leads to new journeys and creates some of the best tales. Let’s travel into the road map of our minds and create through writing, imagination, and design.

- Do you have a story about your favorite adventure?

- Have you ever taken a risk – and were rewarded with a prize, like the gold at the end of a rainbow?

- Have you ever been stationed overseas? What was it like? Can you teach us about that place? What about the friends you made, the customs you saw, or the languages that were spoken?

- Teach us about the duty stations within the United States! Can you report on the area, the best things to do, the things you should avoid, and the most interesting places you saw and experienced?

- Can you create a fictional story about adventure and exploration?

- What advice would you give to other military kids about moving? How have your challenges turned into blessings?

*Remember to think outside the box. We want military kids to get lost in adventure in Volume II.

Submissions for review can include but are not limited to personal narratives, short fictional stories, poetry, comics, illustrations, watercolor, oil paintings, calligraphy, and photography. Submissions can include military children and adults alike – with the focus directed toward military children and their experiences with the places they have lived.

Please send submissions to [email protected].

Being noticed matters. Being a military family, it is easy to feel like the attention is on the service member and the mission. Companies like recognize the support system that helps the machine run smoothly. They acknowledge the sacrifice, service, and strength of the family unit and support them on their journey. Blue Star Families has collaborated with Ford - where they will receive 5% of the purchase price of Ford’s Proud to Honor merchandise that is being sold now through 12/31*. These funds help Blue Star Families access programs, resources, and events. This means that more families are seen and heard, and all members are empowered.

Often times we see a stigma connected with mental health issues within the military community. These issues can extend beyond service members and onto their family members. As it trickles down to military kids, depression and anxiety may be outwardly showcased a little differently.

Jenny Lynne Stroup explores this in our blog this week and speaks of her family's experiences. She says, "What I know now that I didn’t know then, was that my children’s behaviors were not a reflection of my inability to parent. Instead, they were manifestations of years of change, of millions of things they could not control, of months of missing a parent".

Places such as the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Veterans Village San Diego offer an outlet for military families that are concerned about the stressors of this lifestyle. Through counseling sessions, couples and family therapy of all ages, and the use of evidence-based practices they make sure military families cannot only survive, but thrive.

Today, and everyday, we support our Veterans. We support the tearful goodbyes, long aways, and joyous hellos. We support the day to day operations (and the night ones too). To the veterans of the past and the ones currently serving, thank you for serving, sacrificing, and your protection. Happy Veteran's Day.
