Here is the second of our two summer podcasts for 2025. In July, James and I chatted with Mike Hoyt, a Kingston based Canadian Armed Forces officer and the owner of Battlespace Publishing. Mike offers his strong opinions on how to model conflict in a realistic war-game and how to run a good convention game.

In this episode James and Mike chat with Canadian wargamer and games designer Mike Hoyt. Mike has been throwing dice since he was a kid and now brings his professional military expertise as a Canadian Armed Forces design to serious games design. New Podcast is out. In June we had a grand chat with Andrew Dobson, Barrie based owner of Dobbies Hobbies. Andre was a terrific guest and has a lot to tell us about 3D printing and the future of the wargaming hobby.

As we reached Episode 30 of the CWP, James and I had a terrifically enjoyable chat with Andrew Dobson. Andrew is one of Canadian wargaming's rising stars, and is the proprietor of Dobbies Hobbies, a 3D printing factory licensed to produce a wide variety of models from a wide range of suppliers. We l...

Hey friends, we have a new episode up, a special Hands Across the Border episode with our favourite Yank, Jay Arnold, the Veteran Wargamer.

It's a special Hands Across The Border episode with our favourite Yank, Jay Arnold, the Veteran Wargamer. After a brief skirmish in which Jay tries to annex us, we talk about podcasting versus gaming, what Jay as a soldier looks for in a wargame, and of course, lots of Quar talk during which I went....

The Laurier Centre for the Study of Canada has some great free content - this talk by Ted Barris on Canadians in the Battle of Britain tomorrow is online and 100% free.

The Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940 was the greatest aerial battle in history. As the German Luftwaffe sought to destroy the Royal Air Force, gain air superiority, and invade the British Isles, Commonwealth fighter pilots scrambled from U.K. airfields day after day and flew Hurricane and Spi...

James and Mike chat with Byron Mudry, owner of Northern Lights Terrain, a Winnipeg-based MDF terrain company, about the business of MDF terrain, the prairie gaming scene, Canada in WW1 on the tabletop, and he also explains Trench Crusade to us. Give it a listen!

Mike and James have a great chat with Winnipeg's Byron Mudry, a lifelong gamer who also takes us behind the scenes in his MDF terrain business. We also talk about the vibrant gaming scene on the Canadian prairies, and his love of wargaming Canada's storied First World War history. Byron also schoole...

James and I did an experiment where we tried to teach ourselves Midgard over a Zoom session, using my shaky iPhone. If you want a professionally produced war-games video, well, you know where to go, it ain't here. If you want to listen to some blather while you're painting or watching dough rise, and if you're the type that enjoys waiting in bus depots, then this could be for you,

Hey friends. Did you miss us? We missed you. Here's a chat James and I did just before Christmas with a minor wargaming celebrity. Conrad Kinch, an Irish gamer who writes a regular column for Miniature Wargames, was visiting Canada and we managed a chat with him. Wargames theory, our year end roundups, and what we are looking forward to in 2025.
Who knows, there may be more podcasts coming.

After a very long hiatus, Mike and James emerge briefly from hibernation to chat with Irish warmer and friend Conrad Kinch. CK publishes an irregular blog, Joy and Forgetfulness, and writes a regular column for Miniature Wargames. We recorded this just after Christmas, 2024, but due to his incorrigi...
