On October 16, 2016, in Toronto, Ed Whitlock finished the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 3:56:38 at the age of 85. It was the fastest marathon ever completed by anyone over 80 years old—and one of the most extraordinary age-group performances in distance running history.

He crossed the line just under four hours, setting a world record for the 85–89 age group that still stands. No special gear, no support crew—just consistency, patience, and a quiet rhythm that carried him through decades of running.
