We're all familiar with Joseph's double portion but let's consider the selection of the tribe that would bear Jesus.

Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah - the first sons in order of their birth and thus order of inheritance - ALL had a troubled past. And yet, Judah the non-firstborn, who came up with the idea to sell Joseph into slavery, later impregnating his daughter-in-law amongst other things...was the one out of all 12 to receive the ultimate promise of authority, kingship and dominion.

When God speaks over your life, He is not consulting your history, He declares your future.

“The sceptre shall not depart from Judah…”
Even through imperfection, God can establish something eternal. In His never changing character, this rings true for me and you today.

Joseph 's expected order of blessing was Manasseh, the firstborn, at Jacob’s right hand and Ephraim, the younger, at his left.

Jacob who once fought to take a blessing is now entrusted to discern one because this is how God works—by His divine choice.

Abel > Cain.
Isaac > Ishmael.
Jacob > Esau.
And now, Ephraim over Manasseh.

When Jacob crossed his hands, he didn't just bless, he set a precedent for how we understand God's character...which he does again in the next chapter.

Joseph's Brothers - Moment of Truth and Guilt

Facing death in a famine, accused of being spies, framed for stealing from the Prime Minister. It's safe to say the brothers were under serious pressure.

More than a decade later, they are being called to answer for selling Joseph into slavery and faking his death to their father. Sometimes God continuously resurfaces something until we repent and He can then restore.

Truth is: the pressure didn't create the guilt, it only revealed it.

The chapter ends at an intense standstill between Reuben and Jacob, let's see what happens next.
