Fayetteville’s mayor announced in June that he was not running for reelection.

5 minutes before filing closed at noon, Mayor Colvin walked into the Board of Elections and filed for reelection. 🤪

Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin has officially filed for reelection, reversing his previous announcement not to seek a fifth term.

➡️Mayor (Leo Williams, incumbent) - 6 candidates
➡️Ward 1 councilmember (DeDreana Freeman, incumbent) - 6 candidates
➡️Ward 2 councilmember (Mark-Anthony Middleton, incumbent) - 3 candidates
➡️Ward 3 councilmember (Chelsea Cook, incumbent) - 4 candidates

This is the first rescissions package (administration request to spend less money than appropriated) to pass since 1999!

The administration plans to send a few more requests to Congress before the end of the fiscal year on October 1.

The plans boil down to 2 key strategies:

1) Detail (send) some employees of legally mandated functions to other departments like Treasury, DOJ and HHS.
2) “Contract” with above agencies and more for other mandated functions

Fully implemented, the department of Education will be a skeleton crew of the the Secretary and a few contract administrators until either Congress gives the green light to close or a future administration takes office and reverses course.
