ATTY. KAPUNAN TUTOL SA PAGTAKBO NI VP SARA SA 2028

Nanawagan si Atty. Lorna Kapunan kay Vice President Sara Duterte na isauli ang umano’y maling nagamit na confidential funds, magbigay ng kumpletong accounting sa paggamit ng pondo, at humingi ng tawad sa publiko.

Ayon sa abogado, mahalagang magkaroon ng pananagutan sa usapin ng paggastos sa pondong ipinagkatiwala ng taumbayan.

Sa isang panayam, sinabi rin ni Kapunan na hindi na aniya dapat tumakbo si Duterte sa susunod na halalan.

Iginiit niya na mas nararapat munang tugunan ng bise presidente ang mga isyung ibinabato laban sa paggamit ng confidential funds bago muling humarap sa mga botante.

Ang pahayag ni Kapunan ay bahagi ng nagpapatuloy na usapin kaugnay ng confidential funds ni Vice President Duterte, na naging sentro ng mga imbestigasyon at pagdinig sa Senado at House of Representatives.

Sa ngayon, nananatiling itinatanggi ng kampo ng bise presidente ang mga alegasyon ng maling paggamit ng pondo at iginiit nitong naayon sa umiiral na batas ang paggamit ng confidential funds.

‘NANININDIGAN AKONG WALA AKONG GINAWANG ANUMANG LABAG SA BATAS’

Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez said he is prepared to clear his name after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. referred to him in connection with the alleged flood control scandal during his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In a statement released after the President's speech, Romualdez said he respects Marcos' remarks despite the personal impact on their family, stressing that he has never sought preferential treatment because of their relationship.

“Masakit man ito sa aming pamilya, iginagalang ko ang naging pahayag ng pangulo. Hindi ako kailanman humingi ng pabor o espesyal na pagtrato,” Romualdez said.

“Sang-ayon ako na gawin natin ang tama. Ang tama ay ang sumunod sa proseso at hayaan ang ebidensya ang magsalita. Naninindigan akong wala akong ginawang anumang labag sa batas. At handa akong patunayan ito,” he added.

‘’YANG TRUST RATING NA YAN KALOKOHAN ‘YAN’

Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Larry Gadon questioned the high trust and performance ratings of Vice President Sara Duterte, describing the latest survey results as unreliable.

Speaking to reporters, Gadon argued that Duterte’s ratings do not reflect her performance in office.

“Sasabihin nila mataas ang trust rating ni Sara [Duterte]… ’yung performance rating. Anong performance? Eh palagi ngang nasa abroad! Wala nga siyang ginagawa.”

Gadon also criticized the latest surveys conducted by polling firms, calling the results “kalokohan.” Referring to Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations (SWS), he alleged that the surveys were paid for, adding, “Bayaran lang ‘yang (Pulse) Asia na ‘yan at saka ‘yung SWS. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said his duty is to serve the Filipino people—not his family or close associates—as he addressed the planned filing of multiple cases against his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Speaking on the issue, Marcos said:

“Hindi ako pangulo ng aking pamilya, hindi ako pangulo ng aking kaibigan. Ako ay pangulo ng Pilipinas at ang tungkulin ko ay sa inyo, ang aking mga kapwa Pilipino.”

‘HINDI AKO PANGULO NG AKING PAMILYA’

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. acknowledged the personal difficulty of seeing his cousin, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, face multiple corruption cases linked to alleged anomalies in flood control projects, but emphasized that his duty as President is to the Filipino people rather than to family.

In his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Marcos said the Office of the Ombudsman is nearing the filing of several cases against the former House leader.

“Dumating na tayo sa punto na, ayon sa Ombudsman, ay malapit na ang paghain ng patong-patong na kaso laban sa dating (House) speaker,” Marcos said.

“Masakit man sa akin ito, ngunit kailangan nating gawin ang tama. Hindi ako Pangulo ng aking pamilya. Hindi ako Pangulo ng aking kaibigan. Ako ay Pangulo ng Pilipinas at ang tungkulin ko ay sa inyo, ang aking mga kapwa Pilipino,” he added.
