By the end of 2023, the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) three-year contract with PTV Sports is due to come to an end. This contract governs the broadcasting rights for cricket matches. When this contract concludes, there will be a bidding process to determine which network or entity secures the rights to broadcast cricket matches in Pakistan.
As of now, it's highly probable that Asports will secure these rights in the upcoming bidding process. If Asports does indeed acquire the rights, two potential scenarios could unfold:
1. Asports might opt to share these broadcasting rights with PTV Sports. However, there's a condition attached to this scenario. PTV Sports, in this case, might not be able to broadcast cricket matches for free. This means that, from 2024 onwards, viewers might need a subscription to access Asports' network or Ptv sports.
2. Conversely, if Asports secures the rights solely for itself without sharing the feed with PTV Sports, then PTV Sports could lose its significance as a channel for cricket matches. It might lose the rights to broadcast cricket matches entirely, leaving viewers unable to watch cricket on PTV Sports anymore.
These changes in broadcasting rights could significantly alter the landscape of cricket broadcasting in Pakistan by the end of 2023.
