Very sorrowful news heard today about a tragedy that happened locally here in Ballymena a couple of years ago.

An inquest heard that Jayden McGowan-Fleck told police: "I tried to get him out but I couldn't."

We are still staying close to home at the moment for our "Local media hero". The Ballymena Guardian Newspaper is an invaluable local newspaper with a real community interest. Producing a great standard of stories and features, regularly getting great original interviews and visual content for their paper.

Thats why we think they can be called a Local Media Hero !

In our new "local media hero" series. We thought we would start close to home and choose Love Ballymena as our inaugural local media hero.

If you see news that is local to the Ballymena area while scrolling through social media, then theres a good chance its probably a Love Ballymena article or post.

Love Ballymena has been serving the local Ballymena and wider area for a number of years. Whether it be reporting on local achievements, crimes or developments. Love Ballymena's sucess seems to be its reaction and engagement to the news it reports on.

It is also clear there is real community pride, as Love Ballymena regularly shares the work and good news of local people and organisations.

We here at the The News ju**ie NI feel that once yous find something good, yous should grab on to it as long as possible. It is clear to us that the folk of Ballymena and further field has Love Ballymena as a valued platform for knowing whats going on locally.

I think it's fair to say that Tv and Radio news coverage has been unprecedented in the last few days regarding recent events. Wether it be on the day of the announcement, the black backgrounds on major uk news websites, in tribute to the Queen. From a news perspective it has been amazing to see the immense coverage that has happened ever since.

Even radio stations like BBC Radio 2 which plays a certain style of music, over the last few days has been either rolling news coverage or playing entirely somber songs.

Well of course here in Northern Ireland its UTV News and BBC Newsline. But if we were to go to the North West of England it would be Granada Reports and BBC North West Tonight.

It's just not all about news sometimes !
We thought that starting this week, every so often we will pick a news themed movie that we think would be a good watch.

Our first news themed movie recommendation that we bring you is Spotlight. The film follows the true story of how the Spotlight team within the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover up within the local Catholic Archdiocese.

To me this shows the massive importance of investigative news branches of long established newspapers and how they can break so many important stories.
