💰 What’s up with CEO salaries in the current economy?

Last year, the Economic Policy Institute released a report saying that “CEO pay has skyrocketed 1,460% since 1978.” And how much had a typical worker’s pay gone up in that same stretch of time? Only about 18.1%.

Last year, Microsoft spilled the beans about its plan to acquire US-based Activision Blizzard.

Not everyone has been game, but the company recently got the green light from China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to buy Blizzard. SAMR is just the latest regulator of many, like some in the EU, Japan and Brazil, that said "go for it."

🛢 Stopping an oil spill in Yemen

In 2015, an oil storage tanker called the FSO Safer anchored in the Red Sea off Yemen’s coast started deteriorating after Houthi rebels seized parts of the country and the ship's maintenance operations were suspended.

This week, the UN will finally begin a mission to save the oil from the tanker. A crew arrived Tuesday to inspect the rusting ship.

The plastics industry is really damaging to our environment, creating tons of waste and chemical byproducts, with a lot of that ending up in the ocean, the air and even in our bodies.

Last year, the UN proved it meant business when tackling the plastic problem in our world. A historic resolution was passed to form a global agreement that would cover every aspect of the plastic lifecycle, from production to disposal and everything in between.

Afghanistan and Iran share a border, but they aren’t on great terms. They also both get water from the Helmand River, which is Afghanistan’s longest and feeds into a big lake in Iran. A lot of the tension between the two comes from access to this water since both countries often face heavy droughts.

Right now, the elite often travel using private jets, which have emitted 5.3 million metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere in the past three years alone. So, airships could be a clean alternative to traditional flights in the future.

LTA Research and Exploration seems to be making that future a reality.

🇰🇵 North Korea announces satellite launch

Lately, tensions have gotten worse between North and South Korea and Japan. Since 2022, North Korea has conducted over 100 missile-launch tests, and some of those were nuclear-capable and within range of the US, South Korea and Japan

On Monday, North Korea told Japan it would be launching a satellite between May 31 and June 11.

Last year, experts warned about how extremism was becoming a growing issue in video games.

It might even seem to make more sense for extremists to target audiences in video games like Call of Duty, which are more mature and violent. But apparently, this kind of extremism has even been an issue on innocent-seeming platforms like Roblox, where you can find users setting up things like Nazi-themed villages.

Every year, the UN holds a conference on climate change, which is known as the Conference of the Parties, or COP. Back in January, the UAE named its pick to lead the climate talks – Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.

More than 100 US and EU lawmakers wrote in an open letter recently to the leaders of their countries and the UN to say “no” to Jaber leading the summit.
