Late summer is slowly transitioning into autumn in Switzerland. Grateful for the amazing long sunny days we have had, and reminding myself hiking season is not over yet. ♥️
Two weeks ago, we decided to explore a place not far from Lucerne: Maria-Rickenbach! This pilgrimage destination (the village has a well-known monastery) offers amazing nature without the crowds. We did a 3 hour hike that started in Maria-Rickenbach and took us all the way to Klewenalp and lake Lucerne.
Maria Rickenbach - Musenalp - Klewenalp 🏔️
🚂 Take the train from Luzern to Niederrickenbach, about 20 minutes.
🚠 The cable car station is directly next to the station and takes you up to Maria-Rickenbach village - CHF 13.20 one way (half fare CHF 6.60)
When arriving at Maria-Rickenbach, have a look in the quaint village and have a coffee before setting off to Musenalp! ⛰️ The route to Musenalp takes about 80 minutes and includes steep parts, with about 700 meters elevation gain. If you don’t want to hike, you can also take the small Musenalp cable car that starts right next to the Maria-Rickenbach cable car.
⛰️🧀🐄 Arrived at Musenalp, indulge in a lunch at the Alpbeizli Musenalp!
From the Musenalp top, descend in front of the restaurant and follow signs for Klewenalp. The Swisstopo app can be a great help too! 📱
The route is mostly downhill, no heavy hiking anymore.
🚠 Arriving at Klewenalp, take in the beautiful views over lake Lucerne and beyond before descending with the cable car to Beckenried (CHF 25 single way, half fare CHF 12.50)
⛴️ My favorite way of getting back to Luzern from Beckenried is a lake cruise, but you can also opt for the bus and train back to town.
A perfect hiking day with beautiful mountain panoramas without loads or tourists!
