Ending my 2022 with Jesus. And starting my 2023 with Jesus.
The Lord faithfully revealed through His Words how I've commited idolatry. This was an eye-opener devotion, like a knife stabbed in my heart.
Idolatry is not limited to a statue that OT people were worshipping, it could also be someone or something that you love more than you love God. It might be our job, friends, family, education, success, or even ministry. If we prioritize more of these things than we do of Christ, we commit idolatry already. Luke 14:26, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.” This doesn't mean to literally hate them, rather love them less. For no thing or no one must become a higher priority than Christ. JESUS must be above everything. Our love for Him must be greater than anything. Let me leave a question and ask yourselves with these: which things take you away from God? who do you adore so much that it takes God's place in your heart? what things snatches your attention too much? do you love someone more than God? To answer that, assess yourselves how you spend your time the most. Which things or with whom your time consumed the most? If the answer is not the quiet place with Jesus, then, surrender it to God. Spend alone time with the Lord. What you do in the spotlight is nothing compared to what you do in isolation...
The secret place is the secret. —It's AJ
The secret to know God more is spending your time with Jesus in the secret place. Behind closed doors. Alone and quiet time with the Lord.
Guard yourselves from idols may it be a thing or people. Prioritize praying, fasting, worship, and reading the Bible this 2023.
1 John 5:21, NLT: Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts.
HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Soli Deo Gloria!
