The event, hosted by 𝐊𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥.𝐜𝐨𝐦, reinforced the organization’s mission to promote ethical, responsible, and purposeful content creation, while also introducing new media initiatives.

In addition, CONPC held the 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞” 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰, which will feature news and lifestyle segments created by its members.

According to Alugar, the show is designed to provide contributors with opportunities to earn through exclusive content segments, further supporting the group’s goal of sustainable digital storytelling.

The 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 formally introduced new members of CONPC and served as a reaffirmation of the collective responsibility to uphold journalistic integrity.

Metro Manila, Philippines — Vietnamese electric transport company Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) is entering the Philippine market this June with the launch of its fully electric taxi service under the brand “Xanh SM.”

This marks GSM’s fourth international expansion, following its rollouts in Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia.

Backed by Vingroup chairman Phạm Nhật Vượng, GSM is gearing up for a substantial presence in the country by pledging an investment of up to $500 million over the next three years.

The funding will support the development of EV charging networks, the introduction of VinFast electric vehicles, and collaborations with local stakeholders.

This move comes as the Philippines intensifies its transition to eco-friendly transport solutions, particularly in urban centers where traffic congestion and air pollution remain significant challenges.

GSM’s entry is expected to boost green mobility, create job opportunities, and encourage broader adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.

Cebu Newsfeed: 16,000 New Public School Teachers to Be Hired in 2025, Says DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) confirmed plans to hire 16,000 new public school teachers across the country in 2025, in a move aimed at addressing persistent issues of classroom overcrowding and improving teaching conditions in public schools.

The recruitment drive comes after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the creation of 16,000 teaching positions under the 2025 national budget. These new items are part of a broader allocation, with a total of 20,000 new teaching posts funded for the year.

According to DepEd, the additional personnel will help lower the student-to-teacher ratio and reduce the workload of current teaching staff, especially in critical areas such as kindergarten, elementary, and subject-specific teaching roles for junior and senior high school.

“Hiring additional teachers is an urgent measure to ease congestion in classrooms and improve the overall delivery of quality education,” DepEd stated.

Recruitment has officially begun, with Schools Division Offices instructed to start the hiring process once they receive their respective notices from the DBM. Some divisions have already opened applications as early as the latter months of 2024.

DepEd urged those listed in the 2025–2026 Registry of Qualified Applicants (RQA) to coordinate with their local division offices for updates and to confirm application schedules and requirements.

This development forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s public education system, alongside infrastructure upgrades and curriculum enhancements.

CEBU GUPPY FANATICS: Battle of Guppy Masters

The Battle of the Guppy Masters was held last January 29, 2023 in Naga City, Cebu. The event was organized by the Cebu Guppy Fanatics, a group of guppy enthusiasts and hobbyists who aim to promote guppy keeping as a fun and competitive hobby.

The competition was the result of the founders' and organizers' passion and commitment to bring together individual guppy keepers from different places, introduce the hobby to a wider audience, and instill a sense of community in them.

The competition was a showcase of the beauty and diversity of guppy fish, with participants competing in several categories based on various criteria such as caudal shape, caudal color, body color to name a few.

The event was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the participants, who spent countless hours raising and caring for their prized guppy fish.

TOURISM: MOALBOAL'S ECONOMY BOOST

The resort town of Moalboal in the Province of Cebu has seen a significant increase in tourist arrivals in 2022, thanks to the aggressive pro-tourism policies of Governor Gwen Garcia. According to the Moalboal Tourism Office, the town registered 355,445 tourist arrivals, with 264,528 day users availing of its various activities such as island-hopping and the Sardine run and turtle watching, and 90,917 tourists staying for at least one night.

In February and March, Moalboal saw an increase of 70 percent in tourist arrivals when Governor Garcia eased restrictions for tourists. The move earned her the ire of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), but it was ultimately validated when Moalboal saw a 183 percent increase in the two months after the restrictions were lifted, with 10,716 tourists visiting the town in April.

Mayor Titing Cabaron credits Governor Garcia for the increase in tourist arrivals, stating that "the increase in tourists in 2022 is a result of Governor Garcia's order to ease down, or remove, the restrictions imposed during the Covid pandemic. Tourists, especially foreigners, are very happy with this because there is no more hassle, and the tourist destinations are also happy because it results in increased income as more tourists visit."

Despite a 10 percent drop in August, which coincided with the start of classes, the numbers steadily increased in the last five months of the year, with the town registering its highest monthly total of 10,929 in December despite having its island-hopping activities canceled for five days in the final week due to bad weather.

Mayor Cabaron is confident that the numbers will continue to increase this year, especially with Governor Garcia's daughter, Cristina Garcia-Frasco, now in charge of the Department of Tourism. "Last year we saw an increase, imagine how much this year 2023 will be, especially with our Secretary of Tourism actively promoting tourism not just in Cebu but throughout the Philippines, through the construction of many infrastructure projects, and Moalboal is one of the beneficiaries of this. We are building a tourist rest area for travelers to rest and avail of our local products," said Mayor Cabaron.
